Paul mostly used flat wound strings and his bass sound to me was just decent. I much prefer round wound strings that are brighter and have a more open sound.

Looks like Macca’s Yamaha BB1200, owned by the Irsay estate, is up for auction via Christie’s. Given that Macca is known for holding on to his gear, I was curious as to how Irsay wound up with it. From what I read, it was donated by Macca to a charity auction hosted by Edge of U2.
