I'm looking to upgrade pickups in my jazz bass to get beefier slap, and especially pop tone. I want something thats going to sound downright chunky and funky, more like a MM humbucker, but in a passive J pickup. Right now I'm looking in the direction of DiMarzio Js (model DP123).... I've heard...

where did you get it? how much? and exactly what replacement parts are you using? I was really close to getting a similar OLP stingray copy.

well... I'm looking for CLOSE. Not necessarily exactly the same. of course if I thought 1500 wasn't a bid deal (my car is probably worth less than that at this point) I would just go out and get a stingray, but I am on a much more restrictive budget.:rollno:

You know that chunky full stingray tone i'm talking about. What bass reproduces it best without taking out a second mortgage? I considered getting an OLP licensed copy and switching the pickup (heard it was pretty weak) for a basslines musicman style. I've also been thinking about the Ibanez...
