You know that chunky full stingray tone i'm talking about. What bass reproduces it best without taking out a second mortgage? I considered getting an OLP licensed copy and switching the pickup (heard it was pretty weak) for a basslines musicman style. I've also been thinking about the Ibanez ATKs, SRXs, and RDs. Only had a chance to play an SRX590 out of all these and I was impressed, although not exactly blown away or anything. Out of all these, or any of your own suggestions, which one is my best choice?

that awesome stingray tone

I think anyone named poop master deserves his own Musicman. check ebay out, some good deals come across every now and then. Thats how I got my Stingray 5, only $700.
+1 on the ATK.... I had 2 of them....the first one was a keeper I traded in (duh) and the second had a bad neck... I found out through the grapevine that that series of basses had a problem with developing an S bend in the neck.. If you find a good one they are a good solid bass. Just check the neck first!

thanks for all the suggestions. looks like it'll probably be an ATK. I've always liked ibanez too. I just wish I could play one first, but no shops around here carry them.
At an average price of 1350-1400, a StingRay isn't a 2nd mortgage...seems inexpensive really.
But if you're really on a budget tho, find a Musicman Sub StingRay, same electronics and were made in the same factory (it's all american). Discontinued a couple of years ago, but still easy to find new in stores and used everywhere.

I can vouch for the ATK, I have an older original one from 95 (5 string) and it has literally cured my GAS for other basses. I have been through a handful and have stopped here. The soundguys I work with say its the best bass they have had to mix live with (even compared to P's and J's, and other musicians I play with love it. It is hefty, but it comes with the territory. Hope that helps you out 
If it's the electronics of the ATK that you want, check out my EDC-710 for sale in the link in my sig. It's got an identical setup.
If you can't get a Stingray, then buy an Ibanez ATK. It is quite simply the next best thing, and in some ways even better (coil switching!).

You most definitely will NOT get that chewy stingray tone out of an OLP with a Basslines pickup. That pickup takes away the famous stringray sound - it will not give it to you, especially without a stingray preamp as well.
