that awesome stingray tone

well... I'm looking for CLOSE. Not necessarily exactly the same. of course if I thought 1500 wasn't a bid deal (my car is probably worth less than that at this point) I would just go out and get a stingray, but I am on a much more restrictive budget.:rollno:

hey being on a restrictive budget I would suggest worry less about tone and just find a nice cheap comfortable bass at a store near you. Tone will only get you so far but if you're comfortable playing your bass you'll probably start sounding good either way. That's not to say you can't have a bass that sounds good. But there are tons of low budget bass out there that sound great! May not have the stingray tone but most people don't care about that.

If you want the stingray tone, like many say there is no real way around the money. Personal I love the stingray tone, but I love other basses too.

Seriously, why not the real thing? You can find 'em used for 800 or so.

I had an ATK fiver back in the early 90s. Not a bad bass, but I wasn't the Poop Master.

Get a Stingray and be done with it. It's what you want, isn't it?

work your butt off, save up some money and get a Stingray.

Thats what i did and am ever so glad i did.

However the ATK comes closest, but it still ain't a MM if you get me?

Good things come to those that wait, and a stingray is the sort of bass that, although might take longer to acquire, will endure a heck of a lot longer.

Of course if your after TONE then you could always look at a Bongo, im sure Bovinehost would only be to happy to tell you a bit about the Bongo if you asked him nicely. :)

Get the ATK.

Ive got an older ATK400 and two HH Stingrays, they do sound pretty similar!

(only real differences, the Stingrays preamp is subtler than the ATKs, the ATKs are a bit thicker in the low mids, and are missing a bit of the detail in the higher end that you get with the Stingrays, from A/B testing my basses, so to make things simple, the ATK got flats, the Stingray (fretted) got rounds, and they are now pretty different sounding, but both ooooohhh so nice)

ive played a few peavey milleniums that got damn close and wieghed alot less. tho ive played a few others that werent soo close. its hard to beat the really think, but a used millenium (usa) can get you buy for like 400-500 bones

+1 on subs and atk's too..
