I don't notice a difference in the mix but playing solo the ebony has a little more ping. Sounds great with slap especially. I like it for the look more than anything

Lots of awesome Stingrays in this thread. My favs have been both Stingray Specials and pre Ernie Ball vintage Stingrays. I like all the Stingray eras though. But he vintage ones are just groove machines and the Specials are so dynamic

Japanese yen is weak right now so good time to buy from Japan. But you still have to pay duties and shipping etc

I've used SIT on and off since 2002. Great strings and good service! Still enjoying Dunlop Dual Dynamic strings on my Bongo currently

I've had both Stingray H and HH (5 strings) simultaneously and was surprised how they sounded just about identical when bridge pickup was solo. I was expecting a little difference but didn't hear any. Both Stingray Specials if that matters. Obviously others disagree Could depend on the basses...

Also there is no control plate on 5, it's built-in to the pick guard. So with a clear pick guard you'd see the front route, pots etc

I played on of these and loved it. Great tones from the MM/J setup and playability was excellent. I could never justify the new price though. If I found a good deal used though it would be a different story
