I have this too. Totally agree on warmth and body. But the gain knob does add a bit of grit when cranked, though much more subtle than a distortion or even an overdrive pedal. It's a great pedal.

Has anybody tried the VT Bass 200 with the EX112 extension cabinet? The cabinet only handles 100 watts so is not very versatile (i.e., for higher powered amps). But if it adds a TON of volume, maybe that means a bigger amp would never be necessary for me (barring an unexpected commercial...

The level knob will make the signal louder but will not color the tone of the effects, in my experience. I don't use the effects loop much, though.

There is a button that alters the character control, but I'm not sure if it is an adjustment to the center frequency or something else altogether. It's sort of a mystery. All I do is try with the button in and with it out to see which sound I like better once I've chosen my other settings...
