Tech 21 VT Bass 200 Combo Amp!

The difference between 150-200 watts through a single 12" speaker will be negligible at best. Having an additional speaker will make the bigger difference. The concept for the amp is a light weight grab and go package for small gigs, rehearsals, jams, etc. With an additional speaker cab you have the flexibility to use it in a situation that requires more power.

This is what I was wondering about, since I just bought the VTBass 200. So the "100 watts" for the external means that you can attach an external speaker rated to handle 100 watts at 8 ohms?

I have not yet fully digested my new VTBass 200, so I will not comment yet, other than it seems to have a wide variety of great sounds and flexibility.

Opened the new VT 200. Just dinked a bit to make sure it isn't a lemon. Light. Good tone options, being a VT Bass after all. It will be a living room jam amp. It seems it will get fairly loud, but it would need another cab to play with a band. Fit and finish, buttons, knobs all seem decent. Looks cool too!

Ive been hoping they would give the option of moving the center frequency of the character control. Any idea what if shifts too? I belief default is around 1khz.
There is a button that alters the character control, but I'm not sure if it is an adjustment to the center frequency or something else altogether. It's sort of a mystery. All I do is try with the button in and with it out to see which sound I like better once I've chosen my other settings. Wish I knew more about what this button actually does/how it works.

The B112VT cab is 20" x 17.5", so if you flip it over on it's side it's a perfect fit to the 17.5" x 17.5" VT200. It's an inch deeper than the combo, but that won't show on stage.
It's an 8 Ohms, 300 watt 1x12" cab. The only thing you have to do, for aesthetic reasons, is to remove the Tech21 logo on it and you're good to go!

Yes, I'm aware of the available 300w cab. It's really designed to be used with their separate heads. It isn't an aesthetic match to the vt200, plus it's the same price as a second vt200. My question was to whether they have plans to produce an extension cab designed as a mate for the vt200 to allow users to take advantage of the available power. I'm referring to a cab using the same driver as in the combo and in a matching size/style. Hard to justify spending the same amount of money on the extension cab as I did on the combo.

Would really like to pick one of these up, but honestly 200 watts with a single 12 just seems like its not going to be enough. Why oh why did they not just stick the VT 500 head and 2 10's in this?

IMHO a 200 watt class D amp lives in no-mans-land. Overkill for bedroom use. Not enough for a band situation.

Any more comments on this amp? Would really like to know if my assumptions are correct.

Oh yeah, this guy! Well, at least it appears that there's a bit more info available as to its power rating. See below, the extension speaker out is labeled as "8ohm min 100w"

Assuming I'm using logic correctly this early in the morning, it appears that the combo by itself then is only good for 130/140 watts without the extension.

What are you currently using, just as a point of reference? Are you set on a combo? Do you have any experience with any of the other products in the Tech 21 VT line?

Just looking at the specs, this VT Bass 200 and the CMD 121P don't really seem like they're in the same weight class, but the Markbass is also a good bit pricier.
Which, ime, is about all most 12" drivers will take b4 showing signs of stress.

Hi, Tom Richards here, new Tech 21 rep in Nashville.

To answer your questions, the VT 200 is 135-140W at 8 ohm (combo) and 200 with extension cab (4ohm.)

It is louder than it's power would seem, as the 12 moves some air, and it's ported. If you remember the old Tech 21 Landmark 120, you'll understand what I mean.

Given most venues now go PA/FOH, even the 140W should be plenty of noise for you on stage, given your amp today is just about your stage monitor. As many of you know, a lot of pros no longer bring amps but go thru a pre/DI and into inner ears. The VT 200 gives you the best of both in a 28 lb package. For any player here in Nashville playing the honky Tonks, that's heaven.

It's a versatile combo, as it works for practice, recording, and gigging.

But I understand inquiring about power. Guitar players can often overwhelm the entire stage.

Yes that cab should work well with the VT Bass 200.
EXTENSION SPEAKER OUTPUT 1/4” connector for an external speaker cabinet, 8-Ohm minimum, 100-Watts. It is wired in parallel and therefore will not defeat the internal speaker

Hi Guys just on TEch - confirmed to me that is made in Korea its 200 W as stays, external speaker output is to change cab if required . so u can knock off 12 ich by plugin external in it and play on 4 x10 or whatever u wish . 200w4ohm. Thomann will stock them within 2 weeks price at 549€.

No you can't disconnect the internal speaker. From the VT Bass 200 manual:
EXTENSION SPEAKER OUTPUT 1/4” connector for an external speaker cabinet, 8-Ohm minimum, 100-Watts. It is wired in parallel and therefore will not defeat the internal speaker.
