On the flip side, you can really strike when you tap to even it out that way as well. I find that striking hard is good for a solid, clear note, but I personally get fatigued rather quickly doing so. Explains why I don't tap much.

This is something I find very helpful. There's an interview floating around also, where Billy Sheehan mentions that little factoid, and how it helps him out. Try both, and do what you find most comfortable.

You don't seem to be resting your forearm on the body of your bass, which is a real no-no in terms of keeping nice and uninjured. If it works, go for it!
