    Pick or Fingers

Depends on your music you play and the sound you want lol. I switch on and off commonly...want Green Day/Rise Against/The Ramones? Pick. Want Jimi Hendrix, Journey, Boston, etc? Fingers.

    Playing around the bridge pickup

Well I always placed the thumb on the pickup itself...that's my starting point...easiest to do by far.

Keeping clean technique when playing live

Just get into your music...watch the bands today... I know people may hate me mentioning this...but the best bassist with stage presence i've seen in quite a while is Mike Dirnt. He just plays...and does it all. Just don't think about it....just get into it!

The floating thumb (fretting one that is)

Alright...for some odd reason I enjoy to use my left thumb (my fretting one) to be used as a muting mechanism for the E string (and slightly the A) in order to make sure the slightest vibrations don't occur when I'm playing with a pick...since there is no "movable anchor" available. I've...

Bending left wrist a lot to reach frets

usually my wrist to hand is about a 180 degree (straight line). Every so often on a weird note I may go like...195 bend wrist outward...for REALLY high notes on the A string... but if it hurts...try bringin the bass up some more...it may be too low?

"Using the minimal amount of pressure needed to fret"

Lol idk why...but I think I press mine sorta hard...intonation problems can occur like stated before...watch out for that. But if you're squeezing the dear life outta ur neck...just press it til it hits the neck and be done. Don't squeeze it to death.

    Playing around the bridge pickup

Well...from my experience with my jazz you can do that. Now i quickly shoved the treble down and the bass up...and it gave it a nice tone. But not a "full" tone. Kinda sounded empty...if that makes sense. If anything dude...if ya want the Geddy sound, shoot for the treble button and keep...

Is it Precision bass or Percussion bass?

Okay...ever since Leo Fender invented the first bass guitar (electric...for that matter) the P - stands for Precision lol. wanna take a guess why? He put frets on the neck to make the bass playing be "precise" hence the name Precision-Bass. And in my opinion is probably the best bass...

I've been seeing more and more pick players

Dirnt continued a trend Dee Dee started...haha. But many of the popular "pop" (quite a bit redundant eh?) bands have guys who use their fingers exclusively. Then again...their music sucks (nickleback...3 days grace...alter bridge).

Keeping clean technique when playing live

welll it depends on ur style dude. classic rock - sit in the back...move around side to side...etc. metal - bob your head and get next to the drummer and such pop rock -just give up and let a computer do your job...if it hasnt already lol jk. punk - run in circles and have fun. anything...

I can't seem to sing while playing at all

dude...you'll hear this a thousand times, but PRACTICE practice practice. But more importantly, something I find quite helpful, is to play the song without any other music...just learn the feel you oughta hear. Then play with music, get the rhythm perfectly. That'll help ya play it to...

thank you dmusic. I'm glad someone agrees it's fine.

    Why did you pick bass?

I'll tell ya why I picked bass...weirdly enough. For some odd reason I enjoy the deep sound of the bass in rock bands. It's awesome hearing that low tone come out, and within punk rock music, it's got a punch to it that no other instrument or style has. it's awesome. Sure not many...

I've been seeing more and more pick players

I love playing with a pick. maybe that's cause I Play punk style music?? Idk.. I always got pissed when people said "pick-playing" = not a real bassist. It's a style and a sound...IMO. But i learned both ways...I enjoy both for different feels. Slower or more jazzy songs I use fingers...
