So I’m using bass to play “guitar” in a punk/grind band and need suggestions to fake guitar

Thanks for the mention :) I use a Helix and multiple amps with the rig I call a "hyperbass". The Helix has all the effects and sends to allow everything to happen inside the one unit. Using Snapshots on the helix allows me to hit one button and change the configuration of the amps I am using...

Bass lead Two Man Band - Tiger & Dove - New Release

Being that we are just bass, drums, and vocals, we hope you'll check out our latest release. We have solicited advice from the TalkBass community through the years, and it's helped us discover what other artists are doing something similar. along with figuring out our "hyperbass" sound. Please...

Talkbass!! Thanks for helping me find the "hyperbass"!!

Over the years, I have asked Talkbass peeps for opinions and received a lot of good advice, as well as recommendations for bands that do similar things with just bass, drums, and vocals. I have tried various board setups, and it's been like doing Riverdance for me to perform, but I felt I was...

Fender Jazz bass through 4 amps - Link in description

Very satisfying indeed :) WOW, that sounds massive! When you say "too heavy" you're referring to that Ric 4001, right haha! The rig I have has a lot of gear, but is gig ready. Set up is a bit of a checklist, but only one amp gets mic'ed. The rest are DI. The sound person just has to wrap their...

Fender Jazz bass through 4 amps - Link in description

We have found a unique way to use multiple amps to create cords and different fuzz bass sounds. I have attached a YT link to a recording where we used a Fender Jazz (modded Squire, believe it or not) with hum-bucker Jazz pickups and super light strings. Along with 4 different amps. 1. bass amp...

Using light gauge steel string to get "guitar sound"

It's two Helix pedal boards. One for the bass side and one for the guitar side. Guitar side has an octave up at all times and then there's another octave on a momentary pedal. Tons of sounds. Bass is a Fender Jazz with humbucker Jazz pickups. Live we use two guitar amps with a split signal and a...

Using light gauge steel string to get "guitar sound"

I thought it was Ernie ball but it was Rotosound steel strings... 66 swing bass 30-85 gauge. We fel very much the same about using the bass to make all of our sounds :)

Thank you! We're continuing to dial in some cool sounds using just a bass and it's super fun.
