Original (?) Ampeg SVT, no new tubes? Ever?

Just a little update: I've pulled the front of my svt before, but just now brave enough to dismantle the back... tubes are 6550, and holy ****... it was the dirtiest thing I've ever seen. Nice layer, and I mean LAYER of dust. Chassis painted black, serial no. appears to be 738313-8, or at least...

Original (?) Ampeg SVT, no new tubes? Ever?

Thanks Jimmy! That's great news! The glow is minimal, but not nonexistent in one of the large tubes, the rest are fine. Long shot, but can anybody recommend a trustworthy tech in upstate/ western NY?

    Any mountain bikers??

Biking is probably the only thing I love as much as bass playing, I've owned nothing but Cannondales since I started, I still have my old super v 1000, but sold off my v700 and my jekyll and currently am still in love with my raven2000 w/ lefty... am hoping to acquire an old cad4 swing arm and...

Original (?) Ampeg SVT, no new tubes? Ever?

Thanks everybody! A lot to think over and check into. Would the tube power/life be visible strictly by the glow they emit? Or could that glow be stifled or reduced by any of the other issues you guys have posted? The "leaked capacitors" sounds especially intriguing. Thanks again, evwryone!

Original (?) Ampeg SVT, no new tubes? Ever?

I've been playing my old SVT head forever, on what I've been lead to believe is "probably 10 to 20 percent its original power" (still have never had it up past "3"), but I'm pretty sure the tubes have finally bit it. Someone told me once that I can't get new tubes for it? Or that I'd have to...

input jack help, Ampeg B3 combo

Hey all! I have this ampeg b3 combo, love it for practice, but I loaned it to my dad and it came back all messed up... managed to fix most of the problems so far, but the input jack is bugged out still... if I want it to work I need to yank the cord skyward once its plugged in, and tuck the...

    Gibson flying v bass guitar

Sorry dude, not a real Gibson. The black '81's had black pickguards, and the Gibson logo was horizontal as opposed to your vertical on the headstock. Serial number?

    Gibson flying v bass guitar

You're all crazy. I just found out my v-bass is one of 375, I've owned and played it for years without knowing this... and it's the best fretted electric I own (out of fender p, fender j, og EBO, rick, numerous peaveys, not to mention fretless/uprights/acoustics). The thing is awesome...
