Any mountain bikers??

Well, the desire for the bike helps me see the dust on the Thumb- as much as I love the tone, it just doesn't complement any of my gigs.
Made the mistake of looking again at the On-one site; the steel 456 frame is und 3 bills- I could do that right now(!)... the carbon model has replaceable dropouts(for geared OR SS:ninja:)though- love the clean look of *no singleator/derailleur. *

I agree, Maki. But between the ht, fs and ss, plus my Redline bmx resto-mod, the bike funds are fairly short. Factor in all the bass gear I've bought in the last two months (basses, processors, recording software and interfaces) and my hobby fund is stretched thin. If I got that frame I'd have to really stretch it thinner to build up a proper singlespeed. And I'm impatient when it comes to my builds. ;)

Haha. Fair enough. :D

So... The steel 456 is about $350 shipped, carbon is $600; the ONE really important(to me)diff is that the carbon one can take SS dropouts, negating the need for a tensioner. The ENO eccentric hub is an option but takes threaded BMX freewheels(sloppy compared to a cassette)... Dilemma, dilemma...:atoz: Suggestions?

Our local group worked yesterday clearing about 2.5 miles of trails that were in BAD shape after Hurricane Isaac a few weeks ago. Had a small-ish tree catch my right forearm and give a small fracture of the ulna about 3 inches above the wrist. I'm going to give this a week or two to heal up before I try to ride on it again because right now any pressure hurts like hell.

On another note, we are getting close to meeting the requirements for the local group to gain official IMBA status. If any of you guys are IMBA members in an area that has high membership, and would want to help out a small group trying to get off the ground, we'd be happy to help you transfer your membership to our group, SAMBA (South Alabama Mountain Biking Assoc). :D

Carbon! You know you want it. :D

I'm *this* close to buying a Ragley Blue Pig X from CRC. The frame is $220 and there's free shipping to Canada and no duties. For me, the shipping on the 456 would have cost more than the frame.

This is awesome. I'm sure you'll be able to manage IMBA affiliation. Our group did and it's pretty small (population of the city is only 200k).

Fracturing your ulna is not awesome. Heal up quick!

Got out for a solid ride this morning just in time to beat Hurricane Leslie which is slated to make landfall overnight or tomorrow morning. Looks like I'll be firing the chainsaw up later in the week. The last hurricane (Igor) laid waste to one of our main trail systems. We had to remove something like 150 downed trees over 6km of trail. It's pretty exposed and there's very little soil to hold trees up when the wind gets really high.

Biking is probably the only thing I love as much as bass playing, I've owned nothing but Cannondales since I started, I still have my old super v 1000, but sold off my v700 and my jekyll and currently am still in love with my raven2000 w/ lefty... am hoping to acquire an old cad4 swing arm and uber-v it out some day. Do almost all of my riding in Naples, NY, hi-tor or finger lakes trail, and occasionally take the trip to Killington VT... ski lift, no uphill!

YESSS- I DO want the carbon, but your Ragley comment got me thinking(& googling..). What is the diff between a Blue Pig & Blue Pig X? Also- & I vaguely recall asking this before & getting a very nice list, but at this point I'm a couple of weeks/part-time paychecks away from pulling the trigger whether I sell something or not- what frames compare w/the 456(aside from the BP)?
Thanks

Edit: Found it- post #454. Was REALLY liking the Evil Sovereign, but it's been discontinued... :atoz:

Double-edit: Mark, have you ridden the Ragley, 456 or any other similar bikes, & if so, what are/were your impressions?

Still waiting for my frame :scowl:
I was supposed to have it by the start au August.

It's custom made and I asked for a couple of special stuff like Headshock head tube , Rohloff dropout & cable guide , BB30 , and a Belt opening.

The chaistay was supposed to be 425mm but I asked for 439mm to fit a 2,3 ratio for the Rohloff.

All the new parts are waiting for their mother ship !!

Carbon frame has to have it's structural integrity to keep it's strength.

Personaly I wouldn't use Carbon for MTBing , steel and Alu frames can be used after a rock hit.

Steel can be repaired the easiest , but it is oxidizing.

Alu frames are as cheap as heck to get.

I had a good thought about that too this spring when I decided to have my dream bike ($4K frame limit)

But he looks like a guy who wants ss dropouts :p

Yeah, that's actually a BIG part of the draw... the steel version has vertical DO's where the carbon has replaceable/bolt-on units, vertical or horizontal. I did have a nice carbon Epic hardtail years ago- was among my top 5 all-time MTBs for comfort. THAT said, a chainstay separated and I got a credit in the way of warranty. The 456's are built burly, and I likely won't ride hard enough to break the thing... still, steel is real. I've built it up in my head in various configs- a 2x1 w/a Paul Melvin tensioner would be pretty interesting. 32/42x19 or so...

The BEST part is the old lady told me this morning to *buy the damn thing and quit talking about it*
:D
