Any mountain bikers??

Hey all,
I just happened upon this thread and here's my .02!
When I'm playing around on my KenSmith, I'm playing around on my SantaCruz Blur LT or Litespeed roadbike!
The Blur's abilities far exceed mine and it has saved my skin on many occasions.
I'm 20 minutes from a lot of great singletrack in Western Colorado and I take advantage as much as possible. I really like the XC trails and am not too proud to hop off and walk some of the gnarly decents in the area. I can't afford to beat myself up. My many bandmates would hate me for it!
Later, Kirk

Blah! my rear break bleed. No more rear breaks makes it harder to ride. :(

I rode for a few weeks with no rear brake years ago. It did wonders for my front braking technique. :D Seriously, some guys say you should ride with only the front one for a while because it's where all your stopping power is and learning to use it on steep descents is really important.

BTW, can someone recommend best seat for metal? I feel like I've been violated every time i ride my bike and not in the good way, more like "I just got out of prison" way...

Chromag FTW! Pricey though. The WTB ones are pretty comfy too and they're a bit cheaper than Chromag.

If you're wider-assed (like me) than the typical mountain biker, look into the Terry Liberator. I also found the WTB Pure to the be very comfortable but quickly bent the rails on two different ones in crashes. :eyebrow:

I use fronts most of the time, unless its an emergency stop, then i use both. So its no biggie. It was just a little bit scary in case a very quick stop is needed. Just have to ride careful, and try not to lock the breaks. :D

Thanks guys, i'll take a look at those seats. :) I don't care about weight, but comfort is a must, my saddle is killing me.

I don't visit talkbass often but when I do I check this thread! ;) Nice to see it alive and well. I just caught up with all the pages and there are some solid info and cool pictures! :)

What's new with me? Hmm well I sold my glory and now I have a wad of cash just waiting to be spent on a AM/FR type bike. I've gone back to the 90s hardtail trek!

EDIT: I've come to the conclusion that the perfect bike is having two bikes. :)

Just picked up a 2008 Turner RFX in XXL ............ fun as hell!!

Since it seems that I'm not the only one with thoughts of some Chromag steel ... figured I'd pass this for-sale link on to my TB brethern. It's on Craigslist as well as the MTBR website (link is to mtbr.com classifieds)

IMO ... just a tish bit pricey for a used Aperture frame (Taiwan made frame not BC) ... sure it's a 2011 ... but still. If the top tube length was a bit smaller; I'd probably pounce on it, as used Chromags don't come up too often.

Beauty! Hard to find a better made frame than a Turner. Needs a 36 up front though. :D

Love the Chromag frames. Too much cash for me right now though. That's definitely too expensive for an Aperture, IMO. I have to replace the crankset on the Tracer. Bye-bye flexy X9, hello SLX! I was going to buy a Ragley Blue Pig frame this week, but that can wait. :D

... I do believe the Aperture is now $375 on CL. Eh, still a bit too much ... especially since there's a lot of steel choices out there for less. Although I have to admit ... I'd be singing a slightly different tune if it had a tish bit shorter top tube length. :smug:

Besides, I don't really need a steel HT. My aluminum HT Kona fits me like a glove and handles everything I throw @ it. Plus I'm looking to upgrade from my RS Recon U-turns to some other forks soon anyway. Then there's a new headset (current one is creaking like an old swing-set), brake pads and other bits that's gonna nickle & dime me ... so gotta save some coin anyways.
(this is what I'm telling myself so I don't go getting a slack geometry steel HT :D)

I picked up a set of SLX cranks earlier this season ... super happy with them. Nicely stiff. I'm out of the saddle more than ever. Riding them hard ... no issues as of yet. Well worth the price.

Yeah, nice pics Maki! Must be some fun riding up there.

I got out for a sun-up ride this morning. I love my bike. :D

The braided line (left) on this feature annoys me. If you didn't build the trail (and I know they didn't because I did :)) and you can't ride a feature, walk it until you can. Don't cut a line around it (at least without talking to the builder first). :spit:
