These were installed on my bass by a previous owner whom unfortunately I cannot contact. The sound they produce was astonishing and I'm eager to find a couple of sets. The strings are roundwounds with silver (-ish) silk and the ball ends are black. Can't find them anywhere. If anyone can help...

Well, up the bass goes then. I guess I have no choice. Got to look more classy from now on.

Why guitar players can hang their instruments low and we can't?

Another problem is that when I hang my bass higher my left shoulder starts to hurt.

Yes I play sitting and no my left hand position is OK when I play sitting.

Producing adequate sounds with my bass while looking cool is my priority.

I'm actually using that pinkie to fret. And when I apply a little bit too much pressure in some positions on the fretboard it looks like in the picture above. Most of the time it looks kind of like this:

Well the point is that I can play effectively.

Well my left hand technique is crap. Probably because my bass hangs somewhere below my belt notwithstanding me playing in a progressive/art rock band. Or because I'm too lazy to get my hand into shape. The problem is that my pinkie position is quite disturbing sometimes (picture on the right)...
