Thank you! I did some business with them many years back but hadn't looked them up for a long time. I will check them out as well. Cheers!

Best bass repair/setup/luthiery in Missouri area?

Thank you! I appreciate it. I've looked up Goez and am very impressed with what I've seen. Will check out the others too. Cheers!

    What should I do/study next?

IMO, anything technique or exercise-based, or "fretboard mapping", will all just be going around in circles. If you don't already read, I would highly recommend starting. It's a really useful ability and, most importantly, will open the door to a lot of music and learning opportunities that you...

Best bass repair/setup/luthiery in Missouri area?

Hi all - seeking recommendations for the best/most reliable & trustworthy options for bass repair/setup/luthiery in the Missouri area. Ideal would probably be something in the I-70 corridor (say, from Lawrence, KS west to St. Louis east) but would consider other directions. I have always been...

Past basses ya still think about

For the most part I don't regret or miss anything I've sold in the past, but there are a couple exceptions. One is a general regret, that I didn't buy up a bunch of '70s Fenders when they could be readily had for cheap back in the '90s. I remember going to a guitar shop and seeing a whole row of...

    I Must Resist!!!

It's only a good value if it feels great to play it. I've never played one of those, but they look like they're designed to be really easy to play. A bass that feels like "home" is worth more than its price. A good deal on a bass that doesn't isn't a good deal. Good luck!

MXR M81, worth the money? Anything better?

I used to have one and it was very solid and clean. Great build quality. I personally didn't enjoy the distortion that much, but it's personal taste. If you're not looking to change your tone much and just want a solid DI, it's a good choice. I eventually sold it and kept the BDDI just because I...

    Silk colors

Hoping someone can help me narrow this down. Roundwound, no silk on either end, silver ball end. Standard (not tapered) ball end. Not sure whether nickel or steel or core type. They were on an old Yamaha BB bass I bought from Japan a couple years back. They have a nice authoritative sound...

    Gene Simmons

Simmons has a powerful and distinctive style that is immediately recognizable, which is no small potatoes, and he's had some incredible tones, especially live. Add to that his songwriting and singing and outrageous performance ability and business savvy, and you have a superbly successful...

    Dua Lipa "Levitating" infringement lawsuit

Another plastic pop star and accompanying committee of "songwriters" vacuuming up any source material they can find to pile production tricks on top of and call original. Pop has become so cannibalistic and cynical these days, too much for any thinking person to ignore or stomach. Having grown...

    TI Jazz Flats... Wow!

I went through this exact process yesterday. I had put a set of TI flats on my '70s Precision, and the tension was so much less that I had to pretty much fully loosen my truss rod to get them to work. And there was still some buzz. Thought I would have to shim, but tried raising the saddles a...

    TI Jazz Flats... Wow!

Interesting. I just recently put a set of TI flats on a Precision and I think it sounds great with a pick. Very much the classic Precision pick sound. It's in the ear of the beholder, I suppose.

    Tension is Too Tight

Old Yamahas actually have a very slightly shorter scale length (33 7/8"), so if anything, strings should feel just a tiny bit less stiff than average on them. At least, that's been my experience with old Yamahas. Most string makers have string tension info available online - you might refer to...

    SOLD 1975 Fender Precision 8.4lbs

OH! What a beauty! I have a '75 that's much heavier than this one. Light and in such great shape, what a combo!

The WORST thing Ernie Ball Music Man could do

Or the ShrinkRay, perhaps? (I say this with affection, as I love the slimmer neck and smaller body.)
