Favorite tone is by the bassist in a Japanese band called "The Boom". His tone on the album "Tropicalism 0 degrees", and especially the title track, is phenomenal. I also love the sound of a P-bass, flat wounds and a pick, like on Joe Jackson's early albums. Punchy!

Have both, love both. I use the Stingray when I need the sound to cut through, and the Jazz when I need the sound to blend. IMHO, they don't really sound the same. My Stingray is present and strong in the midrange, while my Jazz is more scooped- sounding. Get one of each. It's more apples...
