What should I do? To buy or not to buy!

I finally found a pedal for sale but the dude is asking $350. The pedal is hand made and has a 15-20 month waiting list. His pedal is still sealed. So it is definitely brand new. He had to wait 22 months and got fed up and bought another and now doesn't want it since he realized he doesn't...

Do your skills match your passion?

The 10,000 hours to mastery theory has been disproved by new research. As for passion versus playing, I think a level where you can play what you hear in your head is all you need. I don't believe art (an artist or musician) can co exist with contentment. So in some ways not being good...

Do you care more or less about your tone than you used to?

I am no audiophile. I care about tone enough to work it to a point where it sounds good...on it's own AND suits the mood/space of the song. An octave pedal, Sadowsky EQ+DI and a compressor with a TI flat string Am STD P and a Sadowsky strung Am STD J through Hartke head/cab haven't failed me...

    What's your view on this?

I think learning more than one instrument adds depth to your appreciation and perception of Music. I make a living as a session bassist but chose to play the acoustic guitar in my own band as a songwriter. Then I got a harmonica and added it. Two years back my girl friend gifted me a ukelele...

Sire V7 5vers vs Fender J vs Custom build

I was basically asking if I benefit more price/value from a Sire MM or MIA Fender J and I am looking for a bass that will make work great in studio sessions. I have a Roscoe on the whishlist but right now I want a tried and tested J bass since I know Roscoe bass guitars are very different...

    GASing for a P-Bass

Why would you second guess getting a MIA P bass? It is hard to go wrong with a used P bass unless you have no clue about what you are buying. And $700-900 is a great range to buy used with a HSC. Get it over with and cry once.

    Compressor vs Compressore

Super quick you say? That is encouraging! One can only hope. How has your experience with the Option FET been?

    Too cranky?

Yeah, cranky. I wouldn't reply to that as well. But it shows you know what you want and are a no nonsense band. I do believe you can convey the same message while still coming across as more approachable. And the fact that you need to ask itself shows that at some level you find your own post...

    Is less more?

I enjoy playing busy grooves and making the bassline an integral part of the song by having a rhythmic and melodic dimension to it. It was a result of growing up listening to Rush, The Who etc and playing in 3 part original material playing bands. But I realised as I grew older (playing covers...

    The Major Fourth

I mean it is physical and not musical approach to playing. I don't mean the fourth isn't a musical choice when used consciously but here it is done because the note reach is easy and not because the melody or the feel you are aiming for demands it. I agree it is tricky to reach a third or...

    The Major Fourth

What I don't get is how you justify using the fourth. It is not a musical choice. It is a limitation because the third is 'more of a reach'. Aren't you using one finger per fret? The third would be played with your index. That's the most comfortable note to play. Even if you play a perfect...
