Time for an update! I went and saw the bass on Wednesday, and I took it apart completely and examined it. Obviously, the TRC isn't original. The bridge is a Ric bridge, but not original to 1972. The second letter in the serial number is tough to make out, but it looks like the whole thing is LG...

AFAIK, the 4001s basses were mono output.

Update: I just got a call from the seller. I'm going to see the bass probably this Tuesday. He said it has dual truss rods and there is a serial number on the jackplate, but it's hard to make out all of it due to scuffs and scratches. He said he thinks the first letter of the serial is an L...

So the thing most troubling me now is the tuners. Does anyone else have an opinion/confirmation on them being original or real?

If I bought this, I don't think I'd touch the finish. I'm no collector, and I kinda like the grayish silver. It would be a player, not a museum piece for me.

What would you guys say is a decent price for something like this, being lefty and all? If I go see it and it checks out, I was gonna make him an offer and see where it goes from there.

Thank you! Just curious, what looks off about the tuners? I searched 70s Rickenbacker tuners and they look very similar. Is there something I'm missing?

I saw this on craigslist and immediately got excited. It's a lefty vintage Rick that isn't way out of my price range. I don't mind that it was refinished, as long as it was done well. Can any Rickenbacker experts help me figure out if everything else looks right for a 70s 4001S before I go check...

I've got big black milled aluminum knobs from a mass spectrometer (analytical chemistry instrument). I pulled them off a parts machine at work. They're not much to look at, but the scientist in me thinks they're cool! I'll try to get a picture today

I'm contemplating it. I have a old beat up Hartke 3500 as a backup, but the 4 Pro is really a great head. I'm not sure I can justify keeping it rarely using it, especially since it's as heavy as the SVT.
