Your first bass vs. what you play now

First bass was a BC rich warlock bronze and a month later I had a fender MIM 60's jazz
The basses I have now are a Skjold Custom 5, Xotic XJ-1T5 and Fender P standard 5.
I think it influenced my love of simplicity. I tend to prefer as few knobs and switches as possible. I still love the jazz and P sound above all others. That may have influenced that.

1st - Washburn - XB 100 purple sparkle (limited options where I lived 
) this was around '98 ish
Been through everything from there to here. Too many to list. Mostly ibanez, MM, G&L, Warwick, and Dingwall (more recently).
Currently have a beater bass while awaiting my Dingwall Super P 5 string order. Due in about 5 weeks.

My first bass was a 1980's/90's Rogue, pawnshop bass. Come a long way since then. now have a modded Lakland 44-01, 1987 Ibanez RD 707, and a 1990 Warwick Streamer Stage II (in transit)
I started with a MIJ Olympic white Fender P, that was 1987. Now I play a black MIA Fender P, along with a G&L SB2 and Lakland Skyline DJ. All these basses I've played in between made me realize that I very much prefer Fender-inspired basses.
First bass was a Stagg Jazz Bass clone. The bass was the worst bass I have held to this date, but it did get me started. It felt okay to hold, but the electronics, especially the 60hz hum, and lack of any shielding was unacceptable.
Because of this, I thought the Fender P Bass was going to my dream bass so I saved up for an American one. Once I got it, I strapped flats on it and rocked it for a few years before getting a Squier fretless.
As I was looking to build up my Fender collection, I walked into a shop, found a 2011 Warwick Rockbass Streamer LX and fell in love with it. My wife ended up buying it for me. It felt so much more comfortable than any bass I've ever played before, which made my Fenders unplayable to me, so I sold them all.
Now I'm looking for any Warwick I can afford.
Because of this, I thought the Fender P Bass was going to my dream bass so I saved up for an American one. Once I got it, I strapped flats on it and rocked it for a few years before getting a Squier fretless.
As I was looking to build up my Fender collection, I walked into a shop, found a 2011 Warwick Rockbass Streamer LX and fell in love with it. My wife ended up buying it for me. It felt so much more comfortable than any bass I've ever played before, which made my Fenders unplayable to me, so I sold them all.
Now I'm looking for any Warwick I can afford.
The first bass i ever played was my dad's gibson ripper. (he didn't keep it for long cause wiring was an issue). But my frist ever real bass, was a squier affinity series precision bass pack. White/rosewood board with all the accessories. It lasted a few years then i traded for an ibanez GaxB (still own it). But now, i play either one of my two precision bass copies (one's an eastwood black/maple the other is a parts bass i built a few months back) or my epiphone thunderbird goth bass. Two totally different beasts, and they just sound great.
My first was an MIM jazz bass I picked up at a pawn shop for $160. it was stolen from me like 2 years later after a gig.
Current bass - My main bass is an American FSR Silver Sparkle Jazz Bass. I also have an SX 5 string, and an american standard precision. Looking at an American Deluxe Jazz V to add to the group =]

First bass was a '76 P-Bass black on black with a (one piece) maple neck acquired in the summer of '76 that I still have. Now a Blacktop Jazz w/Audere JZ3 added that I acquired in Oct 2011.
My first bass was a lefty SX jazz copy. Now I have 9 basses, with a righty '99 Fender American Deluxe P and a lefty '72 Ric 4001S. It's safe to say I've made some gear improvements

My 1st bass was an Olympic White Fender Mexican made Jazz. 1991. I put a set of EMG J's, a BadAss IV that I didn't bother slotting and a set of Schaller tuning gears.
My current bass is a Valenti J4 with EMG J's w/BTS system and Hipshot hardware.
Even after 20+ years some things don't change.

My first was a silvertone p copy (revolver model?) and now I play all kinds of stuff, but I'm partial to my peavey foundation, ibanez RD707, and Squier tele bass special. I'm still not very high end, but hey, anything can beat a bass from Walmart 
My first electric bass was an ebay purchase that was a mix of Jazz bass parts. I modded that bass 3 times, and have bought and sold maybe 20 basses. I'm still playing parts basses, now my main bass has a Warmoth P body, Bill Anderson split coil pickup and a Squier CV Precision neck. I guess I'll keep favoring parts basses.
My first bass was a 1975 Kimberly A-200 short scale Jazz bass. Got it in 1979! I now play a 1997 Modulus Quantum 5. Big jump from my early beginnings to what I play now. 35 years will make a big difference.
First bass was a Hondo II Rick 4003 copy with a bolt on neck. The lawsuit bass. I saved from my various teen jobs back in the early 80s to buy it at the local mom & pop shop. Paid $150 for a mapleglo finish with maple neck and perloid inlays. It looked good, but didn't play so good. Didn't know how to properly set up a bass at that time, so maybe it could have had some potential. ..I'll never know.
Currently play a MIM FSR p bass and Classic 60s jazz bass. Someday I hope to have a real Rick to compliment my two Fenders.

I started with a Precision replica, a budget Encore E83, . Had to pay it off every week, took a few months being young and dirt poor. Heavy, very heavy, that's the main thing I remember, had a neck like a baseball bat and the weakest pickups I've ever heard. Still have it and still love it nearly twenty years later
Now playing a Sandberg California VM4, a fancier Precision replica I suppose
. Has a precision split pickup and an mm style humbucker and they're the best pickups I've ever heard, I've had Precisions and Jazzes and a Stingray but none of them have felt or sounded as good (to me anyway) .

My 1st bass was a Squier P bass Special with a P/J set up. My latest, some 30 basses later, is a Yamaha BB1100s with a P/J set up.
I think I see a pattern developing here..........
