I have no trouble making my jazz punchy. I play aggressively and also using a sans amp rbi, a crown 1500 power amplifier thru a swr Goliath 4x10. It's all in your hands and amp to me personally

I love the jazz configuration, I usually pull back on the neck pickup slightly and the tone nob pulled back slightly as well
