I've never really thought about this before and I am 74 yrs old.

#1 a definite, Donald "Duck" Dunn.
#2, probably indirectly because she wasn't credited for the thousands of songs she played bass on. Carol Kaye
#3, although not my style of bass playing, jaw dropping bass lines. James Jamerson (single finger plucking.)

Probably a tie for #3, Jerry Scheff. Bassist for The Doors in later years. Bass for Elvis TCB Band later years. A big secession bassist! Love his single finger string plucking!
