It's a toss up between a Carvin Bunny Brunel 5 String or a BBE 383 Bass preamp that added a ton of noise to my rack no matter how we tried to isolate it. I did like the tone I was able to get with it but the added noise killed it's usability.

It really depends on your finish. Satin finishes require different treatment than oiled or waxed finishes as do nitro finishes. Poly finishes can take almost anything (including silicone).
