    Geezer Butler signature pick ups

Into The Void is the most evident and is easier with a 5 string. A buddy of mine is in a Sabbath tribute band around the Daytona area and is still figuring out all of the nuances of Geezer. He tells me bike week is killer time for tribute bands.

Are you happier owning only one bass?

I started playing when I was 16 and got a Silvertone for Christmas. Short scale little starter until I was in a band. I went through more amps than anything in the beginning. I was led to some kid's house who said he had an old bass in his basement. That was 43 years ago and I was a dumb kid. I...

    Maple fingerboards!

You like those 50s headstocks, right? You gotta get a real 50s model if you don't already.

A poll that all members MUST participate in (including lurkers)...

One of the best drummers I ever played with sang lead. Guy was great at both and I stopped to listen more than once.

A poll that all members MUST participate in (including lurkers)...

I have a metronome in my head and can usually keep better time than most drummers if on guitar or bass.

    Maple fingerboards!

A 15yo Warmoth P-J with bird's eye neck/walnut body and a rescued 1957 P bass. I hate glued on maple fretboards with a passion. My PRS has one as does this Warmoth. The Warmoth does play nice and the EMGs are coming out for some Fender/SD pups. I can feel the difference in resonance while...

Who was the player(s) that made you want to play bass?

That started in me decades ago but, whoever played for Motown as well as Carol Kaye were probably who caught my ear. Dennis Dunaway and Mel Schacher were there as well as Roger Glover and Chris Squire. Geddy Lee and Gene Simmons, different styles of music, helped with my early playing as did...

Do I need active bass ?

Good thread but I haven't seen mention of changing the pups out. I have owned a 57 P bass - single coil pup - since 1975 and always wanted more frequency response. I have used nearly every round wound string made short of $$$$; Rotosound being the best but chews frets. I don't own pedals and...

Is it me or are most Fender Jazz bass bridges crooked?

I would be more concerned about string spacing and how the E and G are aligned with the edges of the neck. The bridge saddles have more than enough adjustment for intonation so placement is no big problem; it's aesthetics and that lies with those who are bothered by it. Are the gaps between your...

    Bolt-On -Or- Through-Neck?

Is all of this for live or studio situations? If you can pick out the differences in sound in a live setting you are Superman. A studio recording is going to be more realistic but a lot of those nuances still get lost in the mix after every other instrument kicks in. I have a walnut body bolted...

Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass, Rosewood/Sunburst

Something that has bothered me for years - What is a "Vintage Modified" guitar and why put Squier on the headstock? If it's vintage you don't modify it. If its brand new its not vintage. So....what is with the name?
