The capacitor and VTC are passive components and not part of the preamp. The capacitor for all but the soapbar pickups is .05mfd. You can go to .10mfd to get more treble roll-off.

It is impossible to duplicate the sound with a 3 band EQ.

It is currently a .05, go with a .1.

I always bring the bridge pickup up to full height and then lower the P until I get a good balance between the two. One of the reasons I have been doing more P/Soapbar combos. The output of the soapbar holds it's own against the P, better than the J does.
