Club Sadowsky!!!

I mean, its still a Fender and its a decent bass, but its not to the higher level of the Sadowsky. I ended up selling my Fender Strat and I found myself not missing it. This may happen with my Fender Jazz as well. We will see as a couple of months go by as I want to make sure my decision is a thought out one. And no, I would not want to have a Sadowsky Jazz and Fender Jazz. If it is like my Fender Strat, I will just prefer playing the better-quality instrument 95% of the time.

I find that my Fender Elite 5 is equal to my Sadowsky NYC 5’s. It’s certainly heavier but sounds a bit bigger.

Bass > Quad Cortex (my live preset I created) > Interface > Parallax plugin on channel. Split and blended around 60% with clean tone!

If I play bass in a Metallica cover band with three guitarists, would you recommend the modern with soap bar pickups, or a jazz with regular pickups? I prefer 4 string basses (I’ve got some Dingwalls for all my 5/6 string needs).

Right now I’ve been predominately using a Dingwall P/J and a Warwick P/J streamer, but with three guitars they feel like they’re fighting with the guitars for midrange space, so I want to try something with a bit more refined/focused sound. My personal favorite Metallica bass sounds are from Newsted. I know he used J and P/J Sadowskys in the 90s, but I’ve seen him in a lot of his current stuff using a Sadowsky modern (including his recent signature edition).

If you were playing in a Metallica cover band with three guitarist (one uses kemper full time, one QC full time, one half kemper half Mesa Mark 7), would your gut reaction be to try a Sadowsky modern or jazz first to fit best in the mix?

I currently have a Mesa TT800, have a Mesa 800D on order, have a Genzler bass array 410 cab and also have a fractal axe FX 3/VP4 for effects.

I would go with the Modern*.

I'm sure we all know this, but since most of the Sadowsky's don't have a midrange tone control and the Bass and Treble are boost only, you can control the midrange tone with two methods - the pickup Blend control and where you pluck &/or pick the strings.

*Since I'm a 5 string only guy, I'd be wearing that D-wall P/J out!

The Will Lee Sadowsky has a mid range button that boost the mids for what its worth.

Your can always adjust your amp or digital modeling mid range knobs too.

I’d plug my nyc modern 5-24 into my hx stomp or my quad cortex. That’s what I would do.

I am wondering if Roger, or anyone for that matter, knows what problems would it cause to have more than 1 dipswitch selected on the Will Lee midrange preamp at the same time? The manual says to only have 1 selected. I am also curious if the frequency center would change. Will it do anything at all? I accidently had both 2 and 3 in the on position! Thanks in advance!

Stick to one dipswitch. If you prefer more EQ complexity, don't play a Sadowsky. They don't need the help.

I'll wait for an answer. No hurry, as it is back to only 1 switch enabled. It worked fine when 2 were engaged however. I'm just curious as to any repercussions.
