yes, but a Sadowsky on board preamp in a Fender can me very helpful in many occasions.

I have Roger’s preamp in most of my Fenders. It’s great!!!
For my passive Fenders, I’ve got Roger’s preamp on my pedal boards.
Of course, I also have the Real Deal

I just got a new-to-me MIJ Metroline PJ5 as I posted last week - I'm in love with this bass. It's now numero uno. But I also had just bought the outboard pre pedal right before getting that. (I had the first iteration ages ago, and also an early Metroline I shoulda kept).
The outboard pre sounds soooo good on my G&L JB5, my Jerry Jones, my Fender P, my Lakland Glaub. Stoked that if I have a gig where I don't want to bring the PJ5 I can sprinkle that magic fairy dust on any of my passive basses.
Here is an interesting interview with Rodger. Some of the info we heard many times but others like providing Keith Richards and Prince guitars insightful. We are so used to video interviews, and this audio recording was probably why it does not have many hits.

Yup. They just had limited color choices. The Japan Sadowsky's are terrific.
As you probably know, Yoshi was in charge of the Japanese Metroexpresses. When Yoshi left, he produced basses called ‘3 dots guitars’.
I was very lucky to buy one on ebay, it is very much a Sadowsky, same bridge, real hipshots, neck profile. It has a slant on the body where the neck plate is (allows easier playing in the top registers, has a dark rosewood fingerboard and is passive. I’ll post a few pics later.
Kikuchi also now produces Kikuchi guitars. 5s available.
As I understand it Yoshi oversaw production of the mij metro express basses but they were produced in another factory. Only the metrolines were actually made in the Sadowsky Japan workshop that Yoshi ran. One of the reasons that the metro express was so much cheaper at the time. I am pretty sure I am right on this but happy to be corrected.
Yes, and they had limited features as well. You only had so many options on the original Japanese-made MetroExpress, which were produced from 2017-2020. They were also chambered, which was a neat feature at that price point. And as you would expect, there are clear differences between the MIJ and MIC MetroExpress, just as there are between the MIJ and MIG Metroline. In the hands of a player, we know...

I found when I play my Sadowsky and then go to my Fender Jazz, the Fender feels not as well made, the bass is heavier and I find myself dissatisfied playing it like its a lower quality instrument. I mean, its still a Fender and its a decent bass, but its not to the higher level of the Sadowsky. Something similar happened when I purchased a PRS Silver Sky USA and compared it to my Fender American Strat, I found myself preferring it over the Fender in its tone and craftsmanship. I ended up selling my Fender Strat and I found myself not missing it. This may happen with my Fender Jazz as well. We will see as a couple of months go by as I want to make sure my decision is a thought out one. And no, I would not want to have a Sadowsky Jazz and Fender Jazz. If it is like my Fender Strat, I will just prefer playing the better-quality instrument 95% of the time.

I know what you mean. I still like my USA Fenders, but at present, my main gigging bass is a 4-string German Metro Line P/J in CAR. The build quality and light weight are big selling points! I do find that my Fender Precision Basses are easier to dial in (in terms of tone), but of course Sadowskys sound great and are very versatile.
