Broken 70's Ampeg B-15N: To buy or not?

I'm a tube novice. I've always used solid state gear, but I thought it was time to try it out. Great to know that the inputs go to specific tubes. I'll have to check it out soon to see if it is what was causing the hum and crackle. Odd that it went away though. I'm hoping it is the jack. Those...

Broken 70's Ampeg B-15N: To buy or not?

Well, looks like it is indeed the find of the century! Plugged it in..nothing. Took out the fuse, put it back in, and TA DA! Power on. VERY scratchy channel one. Plugged in channel two and it sounds perfect. I went back to channel one again to see if there was noticeable sound that could...

Broken 70's Ampeg B-15N: To buy or not?

Full disclosure... it could be a B-18. The lady that took the picture didn't know how to "flip it over" to look at the power amp to find the model #. Either way, WHOOP WHOOP! Its not even my birthday!

Broken 70's Ampeg B-15N: To buy or not?

Thanks for the info folks. I'll be picking it up tomorrow afternoon! Sorry about my ignorance of these amps. I played it about 20 years ago when it was working. For as long as I've been playing, I never really got into the history of these until recently. I knew this one was going up for...

Broken 70's Ampeg B-15N: To buy or not?

I have the opportunity to get a 70's B-15N for cheap. Like, really cheap. Like, $100 cheap. But, the only description I've heard about it is- a student borrowed it and it came back not working. Am I assuming correctly that its still worth the $100, since there is no way repairs could really add...

SOLD Pedulla Hexabuzz fretless 6-string PRICE DROP

For a while, there were things printed on them. Custom, Limited Edition, etc. Must be just after that! Got my MVP in 95- almost identical, but has a little silk screen printed on the cover. Now, to scrape up some $$....

    Stumped: Pedulla signal loss problem

I would have thought the battery as well. It was checking cables, amps, blah blah blah, until I realized it was a stupid 9v battery causing the distortion and signal loss.

Is It Just Me? On your gig someone asking you 'Can I see your bass?'

I'll hold it and turn it over, but it doesn't leave my hands. If they want to see more, I direct them to the Hilton website. It will be my job to drop it, not a random dude/dudette at a show.

    Noob question here....4-strings vs. 6

I played a 4 for a few months, a 5 for two weeks and then 6 for 20+ years. I'd go with he 6 early on. The neck shape is different and the holding position due to the additional width and weight is something worth getting used to right away. It also allows for alternate or more expansive chord...

    Noise from the Fan?

Never noticed it until a few years back, but my old trusty Trace Elliot head has a crazy hum. At one point, the fan popped out of the housing during transit, and the hum stopped. Are they known for bad shielding on the fans? Also, anyone know if a newer fan will help cut down on the hum?

    'Professional' bass guitars

You need a triple neck, 36 fanned fret, hand wrapped pickup, 7 ply exotic wood neck(s) with gold from the Tower of London shaped into the signs of the zodiac inlayed into your fretboard. All with color changing LEDs of course. If you don't, you will fail at life. And music school. And you won't...

    $100 4 string challenge

Its totally doable! I built a Pedulla 4 string fretless copy out of poplar and bloodwood on the cheap. I found a beat up Dean for $40 and pulled all the hardware off of it, plopped it in and bingo! The truss rod was an additional expense, but I saved money by not doing inlays on the fingerboard...

Problems with saxophonist in a jazz combo.

So, the Trumpet player gave the Sax player all of the notes in the chords... By any chance, did they forget to transpose them for Alto?
