    Double Bass Gaiatone Fingerboards

I should also mention, Robbie has a special blade for this work. Normal ones will dull quite quickly. I think they are obtained through the Gaiatone manufacturing company.

    Double Bass Gaiatone Fingerboards

Hi everyone, I have an update for you all! After giving myself about a year to live with the new fingerboard, I decided to make some changes. When I replaced the board, I was using a gut setup with wound A and E. While this is still my preferred setup, the various hassles (and expense) of...

Double Bass Charlie Haden Live at the Jazz Record Mart

I just came across this album today, apparently it was released last month on Record Store Day. A live solo concert in Chicago from 1988. Beautiful playing from Charlie, and well recorded! Surprised there wasn't more fanfare over the release, or maybe I just live under a rock. Anyways, enjoy...

Double Bass The Kay Bass Club + Engelhardts, King & other old US made Plywood Basses.

Yes! I've been gigging with it quite frequently, actually. If I need more juice, I've had good results mic-ing it with an RE20, and letting the PA do the heavy lifting. I mostly play old school blues and rock n roll, some jazz, so I don't need huge volume and bottom end. And the drummers I play...

    NBD! (K)

Been getting acquainted with this lovely Kay K-162 bass. I think it is from 1953. It needed some neck work and a re-fret, but is good to go now!

Double Bass What do I need to have two different sound settings on stage?

Jason, I'm curious, I don't do much bowing at all, but when I do, the acoustic volume and amplified signal are always louder, not quieter. I also strive for simplicity, but have a Felix as well. It's been handy for me this summer with several festival backline/soundman scenarios, where I have...

    New Amp Day!

I do! I don't normally go for that sort of aesthetic, but it's growing on me. Might change the knobs for something different...

    New Amp Day!

It's a Greenboy F115. And yes, it sounds killer! I've got a F112 that is great as well.

A look inside! I'm going to leave the chassis in place, but components are all point to point wired.

    New Amp Day!

It really does. The upright sounds surprisingly great straight in, though when it gets loud it's best to use a preamp to buffer the piezo signal. Still working on getting it dialed in.

    New Amp Day!

I just want to show off this rare unicorn I picked up the other day! It's a 100 watt tube bass head from CNY builder Chuck Dean's Retro-King line. It's kind of like a mini SVT, or a souped up B15. Bass, treble, mid EQ shift, gain and master volume knobs. Passive and active inputs. 2,4, and 8 ohm...
