I've broken several at the ball end when installing. LaBella flats many times. And most often when i give the strings a 'tug to snug.' Install, then l tug and DOINK! The ball guess flying (i have to remind myself not to tug or else)

If you're using 3885W EAD string, I've found all the Flexocor varieties work - original, 92 and deluxe. It really depends on the Instrument to pick which one of those three is better. Oliv, EP, EPW can all work, too. I did not find obligato G alone to work, but I used DG obli over 3885W AE...

@elmer - Yes about the g-string. I sat next to a colleague last month, who was playing the PI strings. The g-string was notably thumpier than the rest of the set. In fact that was this particular player's one critique of the set that they liked otherwise.
