    Stingray really not impressing me?

Well to clarify I don't exactly hate the Stingray either. If I didn't have my G-3, it'd probably be my first choice (as it does sound better than a lot of the Precisions I've played). I'd just need to definitely polish the neck, the three that I tried out were all very very rough indeed.

    Stingray really not impressing me?

So I went to GuitarCenter today and yesterday and tried out the MusicMan Stingray basses there (both double and single pickup models) on an Ampeg SVT4-Pro and Ampeg SVT7-Pro and even though I see the professionals using these instruments, I just don't see why they're so great. The neck is rough...

When is a guitar vintage? And when does the value increase?

My personal take is that vintage can honestly be a personal and bass-to-bass thing. My Gibson G-3's I consider vintage no matter what the year because of when they were made, how many were made, and how long they were made. My opinion of vintage when it comes to the P-Bass, however, are Pre-CBS...

Gibson Ripper - Buzzing/Huming sound normal?

My P-Bass does the same thing, so don't bother getting one to remedy the buzzing. Honestly it has to do with hardware from what I can tell. I used to use my little Cube (with the bass turned way down to prevent blowouts) to play bass before I got my GK rig and I had the same buzzing thing where...

What kind of bassist are you?

I can surely say I can't stand that boring basswork that just shadows the rhythm guitarist, so I guess I'm a "lead" bassist. Think of Mike Dirnt's old stuff from Green Day (like Longview, J.A.R., She, etc..) as well as Geddy Lee basslines (YYZ, etc...) I alternate between pick and fingers kinda...

Trying to figure out why my bass sounds like crap

Alright sweet. Also, just play around with action, I've found that if action isn't just right in some cases, it just doesn't sound good, the string can't vibrate right because it either hits a fret or something on the neck or it's too taught (low vs high) so keep the action nice and in between.

Do you own a Fender P or J Bass? and is it your "go to bass"?

I have a P-Bass, Gibson G-3 and a Spector, and while the G-3 sounds AMAZING, my P-Bass is so much easier to play on, it's so silky smooth whereas the G-3 is just about as easy to play but just...I dunno, it's not as easy as the P-Bass, so when I'm playing anything real technical I grab for my...

    Beginner(ish) Bass

Well for a good slap tone I'd go with a medium (not too high, not too low) action and fresh round-wound strings. That's what I have on my G-3 and it sounds heavenly. As for the instrument itself, just go with whatever sounds good to you in the music store, it's ultimately how you string it and...

Trying to figure out why my bass sounds like crap

Could you record me something played on that and and another bass so I can hear this difference?

    New Offerings from Gibson

Ugg, what did they do to the Flying V bass??!? Now THIS is a V-Bass. Look at that headstock, so smooth, lacks those annoying angles of the reissue. They did the same thing with the V reissue they did with the Grabber one, made it harder to look at. The original V and Grabber had beautiful...

Gibson Ripper - Buzzing/Huming sound normal?

Ground. I can tell you right now, if it comes about touching the strings, it's the ground. I had the same thing happen on all three of my basses before I got my GK amp and a better cable. The G-3 definitely isn't single coil either G3Mitch (well, each individual pickup is but it is always in...

Show us the one's that got away. Pics and stories of past loved ones.

"Got away" in the sense that everything was inline for me to buy it and an emergency poked it's ugly head in and stopped it. I almost got myself a Gibson Grabber for an awesome $500 price tag but something came up JUST as I was about to complete the transaction losing it forever :/ I'm not to...

The official "Show your basses" thread part 15!

All I can gather is that it might vaguely copy the Gibson EB-1 body, although that's definitely not the only viol shaped bass out there.

    How to get this sound?

Well I've got a Gibson G-3, PBass (MIM) and Spector Shorty or w/e, I'll see what I can do :P Edit: Oh, and what should I do with the contour and boost knobs vs the Input and Master volume?

    How to get this sound?

Hey, so I'm still looking for the tone that fits me best and I have an idea of what it sounds like but I can't seem to get it. Here is a video that has pretty close to what I want: Broadcast This by Emily's Army (remastered for Don't be a dick) - YouTube Around 1:46 you can really hear the bass...
