i think you should be able to pluck in a way that means the additional tension makes little difference eg avoid hooking behind, just glance across the near side of the string with the very tips of the fingers doing otherwise would probably limit your speed anyway

Yeah I think splitting is good to keep your options open then again newbie producers probably waste half their time being paralysed by having too many choices/things they can tweak :)
