Fender finally offers stealth string retainer for sale

$22? Its basically a washer with a little hook.

Yeah. But it's a Fender washer with a little hook.

Which means it was made of magesilver that was forged in dragonfire by elvish smiths - and sprinkled with unicorn horn before it was plated with adamantine.

So this is a very special washer with a little hook. Not some Chinese knockoff (assuming Fender didn't patent it already) that would cost 2¢ to manufacture and retail for under $5.

Five bucks would also be a complete ripoff. But at least it's nowhere near as insane as $22 a pop.

Just goes to show what Fender thinks about the IQs of its parts customers.

Ok, this might not be a life changing event for many, but that little stealth string retainer that many of us have tried in vain to locate is now officially for sale directly from Fender.

Perhaps this will become a mega-thread about stealth sting retainers?

It's actually been available for a while, but they tend to sell out very quickly. I recall getting an e-mail about it a few months ago.

I honestly don't see that $21 is that bad a deal. I wouldn't pay that, bu it's not just a cheap washer. Rather It's got to be made of a material strong enough to hold the string down. Plus it's chromed, which is not cheap for small batches. I grant you the maker and Fender are surely making a very good profit and when the copy comes out it will be MUCH cheaper.

However, think of it this way. If you've got some string buzz issues that wrapping the string down isn't fixing, here's a $21 buck way to fix it without a trip to the tech and with no permanent mods to your bass. Almost seems like a bargain for such an easy reversible fix.

Exactly. I was whining about paying $70 for a trailer hitch for my John Deere lawn mower that was just a bent piece of metal with a couple of holes in it. And then someone online pointed out that it's not just a bent piece of metal but a bent piece of metal PAINTED GREEN! Ah! Makes all the difference. Same goes for genuine Fender parts.
