    Heaviest Bass You've Ever Owned?

I had a Fender 75 Reissue Jazz that was about 12 lbs. Heavy basses don't bother me much but for some reason that one never sounded great so I sold it. My current heaviest is a 1978 Fender P-Bass. 10.2 lbs

What is your review of the fender squier bronco bass?

Played a Bronco Bass a little awhile ago. Didn't have any great expectations but was really surprised how well it played and good it sounded, really fun to play. The quality of Squier basses is much better than when I first started (20+ years ago). I would recommend it for any beginner or anyone...

Your opinions on squier bronco bass?

I've been playing bass for over 20 years and really like well made instruments. I played a Bronco Bass my friend bought for his daughter and was really surprised how well it played, really fun and sounded good. I think it's a great bass for beginners or anyone on a tight budget. Squier Bronco...

Whats Thumb rest or Pickguard Pickup Called on Jazz BASS?

Originally designed as a finger rest to play with your thumb. Was later moved by Fender above the pickups in the mid 70's to be used as a thumb rest. I believe it was removed altogether in the early 80's I have one on my Fender 62 AV RI P-Bass and use it to deter myself from slapping, which I...

    Recommend a Flatwould...

I use and love the LaBella 760FLs, but for more tension I would recommend the 760FM-B for a 5 string. Invalid Link Removed

Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon bass

Very cool...Just looks like your standard 70's workhorse Fender P-Bass. I know in the Live at Pompeii video he is playing a sunburst P-Bass with a rosewood board.

    Flats and playing live

I really like the La Bella 760FLs, which I currently have. But I have used the D'Addario Chromes live and they sounded great. Invalid Link Removed

"J" pickups discussion and comparisons - PART II

I'm a big fan of Lindy Fralin pickups. I had a Fender AV 62 reissue Jazz and swapping the stock pickups, which were nice but the LFs took the bass to another level. Still had that vintage tone but with more punch across the all the strings. Invalid Link Removed

Geddy Lee Jazz - Bass/Amp Settings Help

Could be many reasons. Often as bassists we can't hear ourselves that great but everyone else out front can hear us fine. It's just often the nature of bass and low end sound waves. Usually a Jazz bass cuts through better than say a P-Bass that normally sits better under the mix, but there are...

    String suggestions needed!

I used to own a Geddy Lee Jazz and my favorite strings for it were the GHS Boomers. I also had the Chrome flats on it and they were nice too. For me the Boomers just had a certain growl that worked with that bass. Invalid Link Removed

    Fender MIM Jazz Pickups

I had a 1999 Fender MIM Jazz that hummed and buzzed like nobody's business. I switched the pickups out for some Seymour Duncan stacked humbuckers. It was dead quiet after that but I did notice the tone was not as bright. I think around 2003 Fender upgraded the MIM Fender Jazz's pickups and they...

Les Pattinson's rig? (Echo & The Bunnymen)

I believe he used an Ampeg SVT 8x10 live and an Ampeg B15 in the studio. Very underrated bassist. His bass line on The Cutter is a favorite of mine.

    Am I P or J Person?

I started as a Jazz bass only player and was for years but switched to P-Bass about 10 years ago. Now I feel I need both. Jazz vs. Precision

    Some flatwound questions....

Chromes sound pretty bright to me but they do of course mellow after time. I currently use the La Bella 760FL set, as that gives me the nicest balance of thump, mids and not too much tension, but I also like the Fender flats. Here's a Invalid Link Removed that might help.
