GK 1001RB II Blowing out Speakers?

Thanks so much everyone! I took out the 1 severely damaged 10" from the avatar. It's completely toasted. there's something rattling around inside and the cone is creased to ****. It doesn't move freely back and forth. A clear case of over excursion I think. I'm going to give avatar a call in...

GK 1001RB II Blowing out Speakers?

The speaker in question on the avatar cabinet is most definitely creased. I'm chalking that one up as toast. The plan tonight is to take the 2 best speakers out of each cabinet and see if they can be salvaged.

GK 1001RB II Blowing out Speakers?

No, I understand how the resistance works but I think it came out wrong. What I meant was that the 700W @ 4ohms would be distributed between the 2 cabinets, 350W per cabinet. As it stands now, I need the volume to compete with 2 guitar players with 120W tube heads running full stacks, so I...

GK 1001RB II Blowing out Speakers?

I usually keep it at about 1 o'clock, not quite sure why it was like that in the picture. A friend suggested putting a 31 band eq in the loop and cutting everything below 50hz to eliminate standing waves.

GK 1001RB II Blowing out Speakers?

I can get down with that. Thermal ratings have done nothing for me thus far. Since I'm going to be buying a cabinet in the very near future, what rating should I look for? Do I want speakers with a higher xMax?

GK 1001RB II Blowing out Speakers?

Back in June, I blew out of of the 10"s on my 1000W avatar b410neo cabinet. As I was leaving for tour in a matter of days, I went out and purchased an 800W Gallien Krueger 410neo cabinet. Just the other day at practice, I blew out one of those 10"s. I both cases, I had at least 100W of...

    BTB Modifications.

Hey all, this one is for any Ibanez BTB owners out there. I currently play a BTB300fm. it's a 2003, made in korea. 4 string, bolt-on neck. I love this bass, and bought it specifically for down-tuning. Currently, the band I'm playing plays in a dropped B tuning (c# standard with a dropped...

    Thrashed Speakers?

I noticed a bit of a "break in" period with the speakers for sure, after which, the cab had even more deep, resonant lows, and tight, punchy mids which delighted me. Lately though, it seems like some of the low end has disappeared, and the signal sounds distorted once the volume gets cranked a...

    Thrashed Speakers?

Speakers are in good condition, cosmetically, as in the dust caps and such. Similarly, the speaker baskets are attached firmly to the cabinet. As for "underpowering" the speakers; I don't turn my amp up past halfway, so as to prevent it from clipping or "using it past its limit" as you put it...

    Thrashed Speakers?

I've been running a GK 1001RB into an 8ohm avatar 4x10neo cabinet for a few years now (wow, i just realized it's been that long) and recently I've noticed that I lost a bit of low end, and the speakers get kind of farty at higher volumes. Mind you, this rig has seen probably 300 shows and...
