Missing - James Tyler 6 String Bass

I am posting for a bandmate and friend - Noah Zisser. After a gig last Sunday in San Francisco, his killer James Tyler Custom 6 string bass vanished. Noah plays jazz, jam and more - most often with my wiz-kid son Stu. Here's a vid I cap'd of Noah playing this bass: Serial number is...

Looking to try a new envelope filter.

Not my first time answering this question here.... I own several envelope filters. Here's my take on a few of them: -Mutron III (2nd Gen - mine is from the mid-70's and has a built in power supply, not an external one like the earliest models. It sounds amazing. I don't ever gig with it...

What bassist has the best gig?

To me there is no question - Phil - still going at it at 82 is amazeballs - unique, creative and deep. I give kudo's also to Mike Gordon for a diffferent but somehow similar path filled with incredible music making opportunities. John Entwhistle was huge but the Lesh and Gordon have stood the...

Is this the most diverse group of musicians ever on one stage?

Slight thread tangent. (Unfortunately not Bass-related. This is in reference to EVH.) Way back in the Fall of '93 I witnessed what can only be referred to as a "Train-Wreck of the Mind," at one of Neil Young's Bridge Benefit Concerts at Shoreline Amphitheater - in Mountain View, CA. Simon &...

    Ever seen Heart in concert?

I saw Heart at a very memorable and enjoyable concert at New Jersey's Giant's Stadium - way back in 1980. They were the sandwich band between the 2 hit wonder, Little River Band (from Melbourne, Australia: "Help is on the Way," and Reminiscing,") and at The Eagles, who were touring behind...

If you could go back and see one gig, what would it be?

Any Grateful Dead Concert in 1972. Hendrix or Cream at Royal Albert Hall. Beatles at the Cavern Club in Hamburg. I was lucky to attend what was for the me the best concert ever: Desert Trip (Coachella) in 2017 (weekend 2.) Day 1: Bob Dylan (The same day he was awarded the Nobel Prize.)...

Do you velcro your pedals immediately?

After reading about it here I bought the AllPedal Macrodose Envelope Filter. It comes with a spare no-graphics backplate to use to attach velcro to.

Vintage Grateful Dead Bass & Guitar Vault Opened Wide at Skull & Roses Fest

This past weekend I had an absolute blast with about 10,000 folks at the Skull & Roses Festival in Ventura, CA! Andy Logan and Jason Scheumer of an organization called "The Grateful Guitars Foundation," (who's goal is to put real, vintage and newly created renditions of these classic...

    In 8 words or less...

This breaks the 8 word limit but heed the words of the master: Victor Wooten "You Can't Hold No Groove, If You Ain't Got No Pocket."

So all those things we think make a bass sound different? Maybe not?

I am in now way against modifying, filtering and altering the tone of a bass - but as a pretty regular upright player and a lover of the basic P-Bass single pick-up tonality (even though I play a J & Mod Q5) all that's really need to be an effective bass player is basic musical knowledge, a good...

Have All-Pedal just raised the bar on Envelope Filters?

One very obvious negative about the Macrodose is - the indicator slits on each knob are impossible to see in a live performance context (in the dark and if mounted on a pedal board.) It can be very tough to replicate a given tone setting with 7 different knobs to tweak.

    Buying blind: Win or fail?

I bought two pigs in a poke that I still own and play. The key to reviving and making these things keepers was that two key connections helped. My pal and local luthier was in a previous time, the head repair guy for Modulus Graphite. His pal and owner of a lot of NOS Modulus parts provided in...
