Ever seen Heart in concert?

Opened for Bob Seger at MSU Jenison Field House 1976ish? Quick walk from dorm at Wilson Hall East. It was an amazing evening.

I saw them only once, late 70's. I always had a huge crush on both sisters. I don't think I realized how much of the signature guitar work was by Ann, rather than Howard Lees. She is an incredible player. Still my favorite song by them, a cover of Battle of Evermore:

I saw them about two or three years ago. Eighth row center. Sheryl Crowe opened for them. Those Wilson sisters still got it.

Don't know who the bass player was, but he played through a vintage SVT! It must be nice to have roadies.

I saw them in '85 after the Heart album came out. Outdoor show on Boston Common back when they used to do concerts there - it was a great venue. Cheap Trick opened - a fun show. Story from that night - after Heart finished and did an encore or two, the organizers threw open a big set of gates to let people leave. A guy near us said: Don't leave yet; they haven't played "Crazy On You." So we stayed and, sure enough, they came back out one more time, and the gates were swung shut. While Heart played "Crazy On You" there were irate fans who had left through those gates stuck outside trying to look over the fencing, some climbing trees to see them play that song.

Unrelated story - a music teacher I work with was in a band in the late 70s/early 80s that toured with Heart, opening for them. He has some good stories of the post-show parties. Lots of white powder involved...

June 07, 1975 12:30 am - 3:30 am. Hired Heart to play at our High School Grad dance. Booked them right before Dreamboat Annie and Magic Man was released, but those were released before the dance. Unfortunately, someone in charge of the band did not understand that 12:30 am was Saturday morning and not Saturday night. Had to refund all the ticket fees (my share of the profit was $1200).

Shortly after, amnesty was granted to Americans dodging the draft (apparently some band members were) and Heart moved back to Seattle, from Vancouver, B.C. It made legal action difficult. There was a real small settlement for non performance.

I saw Heart at a very memorable and enjoyable concert at New Jersey's Giant's Stadium - way back in 1980. They were the sandwich band between the 2 hit wonder, Little River Band (from Melbourne, Australia: "Help is on the Way," and Reminiscing,") and at The Eagles, who were touring behind their "The Long Run," LP.

I remember Heart absolutely kicked ass with their combination of emotional songcraft and rocking delivery.

Slight thread tangent - in retrospect, it's interesting to me that in 1980, one could make the argument that the 2 biggest bands on the planet were The Eagles and Pink Floyd. (One could add Led Zeppelin, but Bonzo passed that same year.)

What's interesting about this observation is that both The Eagles and Floyd were in severe states of internal crisis. Henley and Frey had basically cut their band off from royalties and put them on salary, snce they were the song writers, and I'm guessing greed ego were the key factors. As for Pink Floyd, it was the band against Roger ego battle. But I still find it intriguing that they could create so much good music while they publically imploded.

Still - going back to the OT - Heart was all Heart......

As a devout Heart fan, I decided to ask this simply because I posted a similar thread about Kansas.

My parents actually think they saw Heart in concert. I know my mom saw Rush in 1976, and she told me that Blue Oyster Cult, REO Speedwagon, and Heart were also on the same bill. I am a little jealous that my mom saw Heart in concert.

Heart had some very good bass players in Steve Fossen and Mark Andes. They were a very compelling live act (but wasn’t every rock band a compelling live act in those days?)

But if you have seen Heart in concert please let me know. There’s actually a clip of Heart performing at the California Jam concert on YouTube. You’ll have to find it…

Around 1980-81 in Atlanta. I heard most of it but only saw the encore. Black Dog pinned me in my seat.

Yep! I saw them once back in hmmm....1977-78 (I'm old, give me a break) But it was either of those and my lord....they were great! To be completely honest, I have always had the hots for Nancy. Yeah, I know...dream on.....

1986, with Honeymoon Suite opening, at the Meadowlands/Byrne Arena in NJ. Someone stole all of Honeymoon Suite's gear the day before (photo of Derry Grehan's stolen guitars here on Instagram) but both bands put on a great show.

I saw them in the early 80's, backed up by none other than Johnny Cougar (now John Mellencamp) touring his great American Fool record (with Jack and Diane and Hurts So Good). Both acts put on great shows.

One thing I neglected to mention in my first post is that Heart may be the world's best Led Zeppelin tribute band. They played at least a couple of LZ songs each time I've seen them play and the last time they did three encores, all LZ songs, and knocked each ones out of the park.

They were always huge Zeppelin fans, and I just love their take on 'The Battle of Evermore'. Nancy with her Aria copy F5, and Ann with one of their Martin signature guitars.

When Page was looking for someone to sing on a Zeppelin tour, and Robert was saying no freakin' way, I always thought Ann Wilson would have been the perfect choice.

I have seen Heart a number of times with Steve Foseen and Mark Andes. I was in a band that opened several west coast shows that were my first times playing bass on a colosseum stage with big sound, Mark Andes and I shared a moment about that and hung out for the rest of the tour dates.
