The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

My 2003 Fender American Standard P Bass. Bought new in 2004, completely remodeled in the past week and a half. Replaced the chrome hardware with all new gold hardware and completely stripped all of the paint off and dyed bright red, then lacquered to show off the subtle grain of the alder wood.

Completely finished. Rewired, restrung, readjusted. Will be posting in the "show your basses" thread in a minute.

That is NICE looking! Is that white paint or decals?

    Bass project finally finished!

I used a wood dye. Rubbed it on with a rag like you would with stain.

The Official Fender Precision Bass Club (Part 8)

Just refinished this baby and put all new gold hardware on. It used to be solid chrome red paint with chrome hardware. Still need to restring it...

    Bass project finally finished!

Finally finished it! All new hardware and completely refinished the body! Thanks to everyone for all of the advice! Once I get the strings on, I'll be posting in the "show your basses" thread.

    Bass makeover. Advice appreciated!

I meant that I assumed that the relative lightness in weight of nitro vs. thick poly would probably give the bass a brighter sound. I know the finish itself doesn't actually add to the sound. And thanks!

    Rus-Oleum Specialty Lacquer finish?

Okay, yes I know it is not a GREAT and professional idea to use Rust-Oleum Specialty Lacquer as a finish for an otherwise very nice 2003 American Standard P Bass, but let's skip that lecture because it's what I'm already using, and I'm not removing it and starting over. I am currently in the...

    Bass makeover. Advice appreciated!

I ended up using Rust-Oleum Specialty lacquer, mainly because it seemed easy to use, dried very fast, and had read some interesting reviews online about using it on instruments. It is turning out really nice! I just got my second coat (multiple, mulitple layers for both coats) of lacquer on...

    Bass makeover. Advice appreciated!

Yeah sure! I started with a chrome red 2003 American Standard P Bass that I've had since new in 2003. You may be wondering why I took the red paint off and then just dyed it back to almost the same red. I loved the color, just wanted some wood grain to show through. To remove the old paint...

    Bass makeover. Advice appreciated!

Update! Bass is dyed and first layer of lacquer applied. There are a few blotches but pretty much all of them will be covered by either the pickguard, bridge, or neck plate. In the picture of the back, the spot in the middle of the body curve is a run in the lacquer. There's also a lot of light...

    MIM vs MIA compatibility

Well that's good news. I also ordered new tuners for the other three, which aren't hipshot brand, so I'm not sure a bt8 would match perfectly anyway. Plus they've shipped, but haven't arrived, so I'll see what it all looks like when it comes. But I appreciate the advice and you bet if it doesn't...

    MIM vs MIA compatibility

I'm working on refinishing and remodeling a 2003 American Standard P Bass. I was so excited to find a great deal on a hipshot xtender (bt7) that I got caught up in a buying frenzy and ordered it before I realized it's for a MIM p bass. From what I could find online, both tuner peg holes for the...
