    I have a 112, someday when I have more dough I’ll get another, or a 212.

What do I need to look for in an amp or speaker for a bass with a low B string?

Some cabs handle it better than others, you might also want a little extra wattage for headroom but I use 100 watt amps all the time. A high pass filter of some kind can be very, very nice to have both for tone and to protect your cab on loud gigs.

2x12 Choices - Markbass, Genzler, Revsound

Between these three options I think the revsound is probably going to be a much, much better cab. I don’t have experience with these brands as 212’s directly or the exact models but, I think the revsound will be hard to beat as a super biased revsound owner who has experience with mark bass gear...

Yeah glad someone got that shell pink bass! lol it was very, very nearly mine before the og owner bought it like a day before I could. Been very happy with my lake placid blue TM5 that’s just a few serial numbers away, only thing I’ve played since.

Anyone else cross the 5 string rubicon?

I put in a ton of time for a teenager playing a 5 string on local community theater gigs in high school. I traded it in for a 4 for awhile but soon went back to 5’s and can’t really look back.

Considering dipping a toe into Tube Amps...

ahhh, i have really considered doing this kind of set up. I have a tube preamp that I really love and use everywhere, usually ampless or into the fx return on a backlined amp. But i've thought about for my local gigs and jazz gigs using that preamp into a low watt tube poweramp. I have a super...

Need to find cab options for a peavey 400 series head

this is all good advice, for something the size of a 410 youre mostly limited to buying local. the main determining factor for whether you want a 410, 210, 115, 212, is all going to be about how loud you want to be. If i was in your shoes (and have been before) i'd check craigslist and facebook...

Double Bass About a possible replica of the Kaplan Golden Spiral gut strings

Ha! That’s always nice about having steel A/E, you can tune your guts against them between songs real quick! That’s what gollihur guys said, it’s more of a tonal thing. I always assumed the tynex winding was for durability but have personally found plain gut more durable (unlike a Boeing plane)...

Double Bass About a possible replica of the Kaplan Golden Spiral gut strings

Interesting thoughts, thanks! Yeah I knew I’d be happy with the plain gut D&G but I was wondering about people’s preference for the wound gut D/G. Chatted with the guys at Gollihur about they’re thoughts too yesterday. ah yeah, the tuning and retuning for the first month I’m familiar with...

Double Bass About a possible replica of the Kaplan Golden Spiral gut strings

Sure, because of the tuning instability I’ve always played steel E and A strings, never gut or synthetic, excited so far! I meant specifically a wound D and G (clear tynex like the ‘vintage) over gut as opposed to plain(!) gut. In my experience it makes them less durable not more and harder to...

Double Bass About a possible replica of the Kaplan Golden Spiral gut strings

Just order plane gut D&G and the series 22 E&A from Gollihur! Pretty excited. I’ve been playing nondescript plane gut d and g with spiro med e and a for awhile. Wondering why yall choose the synthetic or ‘vintage’ style wound strings over plane gut? Thanks! I was lucky enough to have an OG...

    Club Sandberg (part 2)

Sounds like an awesome collection!! Haha I’ve heard of boiling strings but never rubbing alcohol. Whatever works! Strings aren’t getting cheaper. I think you’ll really enjoy the sandberg, mine sounds warmer, slightly more fender-y and old school but with bite when I want it, than I remember my...

Good for you! I get stressed by having too many strings to change…my fault for playing fives lol. I’m 27 and my finances ain’t changing anytime too soon, would love a fretless 4 stingray some day, or a Spector with a HAZ mine had the tone pump. Sounded great, couldn’t control the gain…
