2x12 Choices - Markbass, Genzler, Revsound

I've decided that I'm ready to move on from my current 8ohm 2x10 cab to a 4ohm 2x12. Budget dictates that I keep it at or below $1K - so please no recommendations on $2K cabs. For those $$, the three that I keep coming back to are the Genzler Nu Classic 212, the MarkBass 58R series (Energy and Pure have neos with different tweeters, the P- series has ceramic speakers with the same tweeter as the Energy), or Revsound.

I'm interested in hearing TBer's experiences with any of these brands. In terms of current pros and cons, here's how I see it:
  • MarkBass – Pros: crazy light, Pure tweeter seems to have more 'snap' or highs than the piezo on the Energy or P. Cons: it's physically a bigger box, it appears to me that they are using the same exterior cab mold for the 4x10, 2x12, and 2x10 XL cabs.
  • Genzler: Pros: great reviews on tone, light for a ceramic cab, vertical arrangement. Cons: not sure other than it's 44lbs, if that's a con. Maybe tolex is a con, as it can tear. I'm reaching here...

  • Revsound – Pros: very light, small footprint with vertical arrangement. Cons: aside from the tolex vs something tougher thing, the only one I can think of is that a Genzler or MB could be returned if I don't bond with them, the Revsound is a buy it and it's yours deal (and I'm sure there's a wait time from ordering to receiving).
I understand that all cabs have some amount of baked-in tone, but I'm looking for something more transparent that will let me hear changes in EQ and basses more than my current one does.

I don't have experience with your listed cabinets, but if you aren't in a hurry to get one now or very soon, I suggest calling Don Oatman (Low Down Sound). He made this great 2-12 cabinet for me in 2011.

Between these three options I think the revsound is probably going to be a much, much better cab. I don't have experience with these brands as 212's directly or the exact models but, I think the revsound will be hard to beat as a super biased revsound owner who has experience with mark bass gear (I think it's good! Not great). But with revsound you will have to deal with a wait time for orders, I don't know about returns honestly. I kind of imagine someone else would want it if you don't, maybe someone on the waitlist, I would if I had the dough lol.

If you don't have experience with the other speakers, how can you claim that something is better?

Depends on which drivers you decide to go with.

The two, Avatar 210B cabinets I have were loaded from the manufacturer with Eminence U.S.A. Neodymium drivers.
Each cab comes in at 40 lbs., built extremely well, sounds pretty durn good, and didn't wreck my wallet!

I use a pair of 112 RevSound cabs and love them. Very neutral without being sterile, very efficient but can also take lots of power if needed. Yes there's a wait time, they're made to order. But I'm very happy with mine, and a month or two wait isn't bad. There's a RevSound thread here on TB, and I highly recommend that you call and talk with David Luke, the owner. He's very knowledgeable and affable and may help guide you in your choices.

I've never played or even heard a RevSound cab, but I don't think I have ever read a single negative comment on them or the company. Every RevSound cab review I've seen has nothing but good things to say about product performance and quality as well working with the company owner David.

Just one person's opinion, but I hope this helps:

I've never owned, but have played a lot thru markbass cabs and amps - my opinion is that they tend to be fine, get the job done, but are not particularly inspiring.

I don't specifically recall playing thru a Genzler cab, but have had some experience with their amps - top notch, exceptional stuff.

My first RevSound cab was a 4-ohm RS212. It's a very light 32 lbs and sounds phenomenal for classic rock, blues, soul, r&b stuff. Smooth, punchy, responds extremely well to what your fingers ask for. (My fav cab, I'm looking forward to using it for a couple upcoming outdoor gigs).

I then got an 8-ohm RS115 - even lighter 26 lbs, smaller, punchier, great for any situation I get called for. I use this one the most.

Then I got a 4-ohm RS28 for my vacation house. Less than 20 lbs, very small box, and feels similar to the 115. It's better than the others at revealing the character of the amp - I run two different heads thru it and their different character comes thru, those amps sound more similar thru the 212 and 115. I point this out because you're "looking for something more transparent that will let me hear changes in EQ and basses" - so if you end up ordering with Dave let him know that, he can likely use his voodoo to make that happen better for you in a 212.
