Trading not in the same state

I've done three or four trades on here that were very positive experiences. I think most on here are really great people. You should get a sense from the dialog. A phone call is probably a good idea. Complete disclosure is of course a prerequisite. If you look in the classifieds, it's apparent...

Saddles bottom out on new Spector Euro (set neck bass)

I did shoot an email off to Spector but haven't heard anything back yet. I am probably just going to keep it. It plays and sounds so good and if the seasons can be handled entirely with truss rod adjustments, I think it'll be just fine. If I end up needing just a little extra, that idea of...

Saddles bottom out on new Spector Euro (set neck bass)

This is great info and I really really appreciate all the input. There's a tiny crevice behind the bridge and if I shine a light on it, the bridge looks pretty flat on the body so I don't think there's a shim in there. I may take it off to be sure. As some have pointed out, it does seem like...

Saddles bottom out on new Spector Euro (set neck bass)

Thank you for the responses, here are pictures as requested. Action measurement is G string 12th fret. Relief is pictured at 7th fret with first and 15th frets depressed. What looks like a gash here is just an artifact of the picture.

Saddles bottom out on new Spector Euro (set neck bass)

I swear if I'd stop buying new instruments that half my problems in life would disappear. My new Spector Euro CTS (4 string) arrived from Sweetwater today. The action was really high which wasn't surprising but when I went to set it to my usual preference of 4/64 treble side and a little over...

Seeking Advice – Best Way to Promote yourself as a Bassist?

The band I’m currently in started by me introducing myself to a solo singer/songwriter at their gig. I asked if he also had a band and he did not but wanted to start one. He already had a drummer he’d been playing with. Voila. I’d also suggest just becoming fans of other local bands. Follow...

Let me copy your bass practice routine

I feel like there are three important categories. 1. Repertoire 2. Ear Training 3. Fretboard Knowledge Here’s a process that would hit all three. 1. Pick a song on the radio and figure out the basic chord progression by playing just the roots. If that takes you longer than ten minutes it’s...

    Neck shim general consensus

Ernie Ball regularly sends out expensive brand new basses with tiny plastic shims that wrap around the two back screws. They have to warranty those basses so I don’t think they’d do that if there was any fear of them causing a ski jump.

NEED HELP: I'm ready to confess after 25 years

I’m willing to bet that in your head you are able to hear unique and creative licks that are your own (if not then more listening is in order). Now all you need to do is figure out how to translate them to the fretboard. Ear training will help you do that. I recommend ear training apps like...

Do online dealers have an obligation to tell you that they’re selling you a floor model?

Small stores don't typically have a big back room full of unopened boxes and have most of their inventory out on the floor. If it's a small store, I would just assume it's been played. The definition of new seems to be more about the warranty. You still get it no matter how many miles it's...

Are there tiers in the level of quality on the current EBMM Stingrays?

I love EBMM basses. The fit and finish is typically very good but quite a few basses come out of the factory with shims. Especially 5 strings. Not a huge deal but at that price point, I’d like to see them fix the neck pocket instead of just throwing a shim in. They say it’s just part of the...

Fender USA - Your QC is Shameful

Many of these issues, like the bottomed out saddles that the OP experienced, don't become apparent until you go to give an instrument a setup. Most in store instruments have bad setups and action that is way too high. I don't think it's a coincidence that most instruments come from Fender with...

What is your personal way of improvising on bass during a jam?

The best practice will be to start jamming along with songs on the radio/spotify/whatever.

FedEx tried to deliver an empty box to me today that should have had a bass in it

OP With Final Update Well it showed up today. No damage at all. I asked the driver, who had been texting me to keep me updated, if he had any idea what had actually happened. He had no idea unfortunately. FedEx repacked the bass in it's original box. It had been clearly cut open long ways with...
