Trading not in the same state

Hey! This may be us somewhere and if it is please point me towards it if you know, and I will delete this. I am wondering if anybody here has done a trade with another person over classified and both of you guys shipped gear.

It kind of terrifies me to be honest with you, doesn't seem to be a solid way to keep either side accountable.

Yeah, I tend to not be very trusting of anyone anymore :-( Almost feel like the way to do it is to have each party purchase the bass from each other for the same amount.

That could work.
I always figure you might as well approach life like everybody's your friend or nobody is; don't make much difference.

I've done it three times. Worked out for all three, but one of the times I was worried while the bass coming to me was in transit—I discovered the pictures sent were taken by a prior owner of the bass for a sale here on TB in the past. I wasn't sure whether I was getting scammed using the old pics. (Note using old pics is a TB rules violation. )

I think the reputation scores here on TB are a help. I don't think I'd do a trade with someone that doesn't have a track record of good transactions already.

Cool, good advice. Yeah, I wish I had any cred on here. How does on get reviews (I just bought something from a tb and want to give them some feedback as well as get some).

Generally, buyer gives feedback first once they're satisfied with the item. Seller doesn't want to give feedback until sure buyer isn't gonna start shenanigans.

Made two amazing new friends that I talk to a few times a week or more via txt and direct messages that I traded with just this year alone.

I feel pretty lucky to have long standing, close friends that I've known for many many years… at 42, making new friends is not as common as it once was so I feel grateful to have made these awesome new buds who o genuinely enjoy sharing conversation with.

I've traded and shipped basses & gear worth several thousands of dollars with no issue at all. But I've been using the classifieds here for so long that I am familiar with all of the "key players" and happen to be pals and friends with a lot of them now.

Pay attention to the feedback scores of users you are unfamiliar with. The feedback system is in place for this very reason. Personally I would never trade a bass with a complete stranger with zero feedback on here (sorry my guy!)

I get it! The other person has as much to risk with me. I'm hoping to get my first feedback from the Bass I just bought. I'd love to get a seller feedback as well, but seems like more people want to trade then buy :-( or just you back cause I could use the cash lol. I have a good rep on my sweetwater and reverb accounts, but I've lost too much $$ to them.

If the other person is willing to trade and we both feel comfortable, what is usually the procedure. Just blind faith that you both put it in the mail?

Yup, pretty much! I like to work out and express the exact day I'll ship then share the tracking info / photo of the shipping receipt once the item's on its way.

If both parties feel comfortable then really all should be good if everyone simply follows through and remains communicative.

The more wheelin' and dealin' you do here the less stressful it'll get. Always trust your gut! Now that you and I have had this lil back n forth I will say that my opinion of you has changed and I would certainly entertain trades with you.

Not everyone here leaves feedback after a transaction (which is unfortunate) but I always try to make sure to do that. Having a positive Reverb / eBay feedback history is a huge plus in the meantime though.

I've done a few. All worked out well for both parties. Proving the point that 99.9% of TBers are great people.

I have seen a sense of that. I know that it's definitely my problem--I was 8 Ibanez deep (including a gorgeous for a new 6605) when I realized I couldn't get "the sound" and feel I was looking for and started exploring other instruments. It took me down the rabbit hole because, and of course there is nothing good near me to try, so I ended up buying 1 million things over the course of the last two years and putting myself into some decent debt. Of my own fault I know lol.

I love getting to know a new bass and seeing if it's one of "the ones".

I will say that it is interesting to me sometimes to get a nice custom or revered bass and not like it or bond with it at all, kind of breaks my heart :-(

The good news for me is that the trader/seller has good feedback from a couple different sales. I think I would feel comfortable and I got to do a video call and maybe connect with them on Facebook. That way you can see who they and that they are a real person. I know some people will not like that--I am an over--sharer so I would've given all of that at the start.
