    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

I also got me a Hofner leather strap some time ago, but it seemed to me so thick and heavy and inflexible. It felt like it weighed more than the bass itself. It was meant for my Ignition violin bass. Ended up never using it, though since then I bought an HCT violin bass so I guess I could give...

    Hofner-(not just Beatle Basses)-Group Part 2

So after lots of internal debating, including here, I finally got me the ‘upgrade’ from my lefty Ignition to a Contemporary… thought I’d share. Such a fine instrument, great sustain, great tones, great build quality, really enjoying the hell out of it. First thing I did was put the Ignition’s...

That upgraded Ignition is exactly what I’d be looking for. Couldn’t seem to find the lefty version though..

You do mean my comment, right? In that case we don’t have to guess anymore. I looked them up now and yes, they are the 39-96, stainless flatwounds, not tape wound. They are the “760FHB2”.

I have the lighter version of those LaBellas (45-95 or something) on my Hofner and the G is as smooth as the other strings.

True. Or do just the E string, your original idea. Good luck!

From what I’ve read the E ‘issue’ is common on the Höfner / Pyramid flats, and I have had the same experience. Have not been able to find out if the E is supposed to sound like that, have read both sides. Like you I found myself starting to subtly avoid the low E. After a while of that I caved...

    The Samick Club

I’d like to join the club with my 1997 lefty SPM-1. I just had it ‘revised’ because it’s been my trusty bass for years until I fell in love with a Hofner violin bass. That one can’t keep up with what my band demands, though. Reason I didn’t just look for a new bass is that this one has been...

Beautiful. Could the muffled sound be partly related to the foam still under the bridge (at least in the pic)?

    Yes it does, thanks.

Damn, I have started starting sliding down the Contemporary rabbit hole these last few days. Your reply sure has diabolical timing :) Still not completely over the ‘I want hollow’ thing, but something is shifting. Couple of hours on YouTube last night checking out everything HCT, so I have...

Thanks for all your pointers and the inspiration to upgrade my humble Ignition. I’m really into Hofner violins, and to be honest I’d upgrade to a contemporary without a second thought if it wasn’t for the center block. I want full hollow, but can’t afford a German full hollow, so Ignition it is:-)
