Paul McCartney is FAR FAR FAR from being minimalist. His lines almost always move melodically with the song. Chris Squire took what McCartney was doing and made Yes bass lines out of it. Look at Levin with Gabriel and Sklar with Collins.

I should add that I LOVE my Thumb 5 active but it is not for the faint of heart and I'd probably choose something with better neck balance today. But the sound is unmatched for recording, from overdrive to pristine clarity.
