Am I too old to get started in this?

As I mentioned, I started about 1.5 years ago, at age 54. I have a weekly lesson through a local music school. The lesson before mine is a young boy, about 14, who is learning to play guitar. This kid has been playing for about 2 years and is damn good. Last night, after the boy had left the room, the teacher told me that the boy's mom called to "apologize" for her son. This kid, who was born sometime around 2006 or so, is really into classic rock. He comes into his lesson and wants to learn songs like "Burning Heart" from Survivor or classic songs from Santana. Our teacher loves it - these really are the roots of rock guitar.

Right now, we are working on bass lines for Santana's "Europa" and Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe". I'm not complaining - this is the music I grew up with, and I love exploring the deeper end of it all.

I started playing bass 2 years ago after playing guitar for 30+ years. No formal lessons... Just YouTube to learn songs. I've played with other musicians that were planning on gigging but it never seemed to pan out. I kept practicing and practicing any how. Finally, I hooked up with these guys that are great musicians! We will be gigging soon since we've got a little over 50 songs down. I'm 55 (56 this summer) and I am really enjoying this! I'm addicted to the bass. I have not touched a guitar in 2 years. Enjoy it and don't worry about it being too late. It'll be too late when you're pushin' daisies, so make do!

My plan exactly. My son-in-law is a keyboard player mostly. He can play most other instruments and has the harmony gift, but a bit loose on rythym and time.
After playing in two bands through high school, I went to work, started a family, sold everything
Ironically, none of my kids have musical interest, but my daughter married a musician. Lol
Why not pick it back up. I could help with the his rythym and time keeping. And better yet he does understand how those friggen chords work. So after 34 years bought a Ibenez SR500 and a Peavey amp, six months in we've got more than 30 songs covered and we're going to play a gig for a friend's birthday.

I am 43 now. I tried learning the bass 2 years ago. I like it, but I just didn't practice enough and didn't learn more than just a few cords. I had an Ibanez GSR200 that I actually got on Ebay, new for $140 shipped. Unfortunately, I have since sold it.

Over the past 2 years, I was thinking that I want to give it another shot. But, now I'm 43. I jumped on a few forums for beginner bass guitar reviews and see that most folks seem to be teenagers. So, that got me thinking about age

Just wondering if there were other folks out there who started later in life too.

The bass guitars I'm considering is getting another Ibanez GSR 200 or the Dean Custom Zone in Electric Green (I just really like the look of it). Thoughts? I'd like to spend as little as possible since I'm just starting out; under $200 (I know the Dean is $229).

Nope, never too old. I will turn 70 this year. Decided about a year or so ago to go back and pick up the “pieces “ from bygone days. I have a lot more patience with things than I did years ago, which helps. Really great deals out there on all sorts of used gear. If you still have the desire, go for it, you might be surprised at yourself.
