Post pics of your bass(es) and give a speech about them!

Hi everyone! This thread I made is dedicated to our own personal possessions, something we all cherish more than just about most things.... Our basses! Now obviously, as important as our instruments are to us, there's no denying that when it comes to our "sound", we must factor in all...

    Paul D'Amour's tone

Well I'll be a monkey's uncle, you were telling the truth all along seang15! I know it's silly, replying to a thread like this a year after the fact, but lately some pictures have surfaced on the internet of Paul D'Amour with his new band Lesser Key, and in those photos you can clearly see him...

What's your favorite "the bass playing on this album is awesome" album?

Primus - Frizzle Fry Not only is the bass is so rich sounding that listening to it becomes more addicting than injecting crystal meth into your eyeball (disclaimer- I don't use crystal meth or any real drugs for that matter), but Les Claypool is also an aficionado when it comes to his...

    Worst Bands Ever

Anything that sounds remotely similar to Limp Bizkit is what I consider to be "music that I hate the most" That band butchers music worse than the way they spelled the word "biscuit"

3 Albums for the Rest of Your Life

Kyuss - Blues For The Red Sun (1992) Peach - Giving Birth To A Stone (1994) Tool - Ænima (1996) All 90's albums and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Show your video! --You on Youtube Part 3

Here's song I covered this morning. It's called "Spasm" by Peach, a 90's hard rock band which featured Justin Chancellor on bass (before he was the bassist for Tool). ~Cheers

Boss BD 2 or Big Muff?!?!

I hear Big Muffs are reliable, but not the most high end fuzz/distortion pedal you can get (that would probably be a ProCo RAT or something), however I have no idea about the Boss Blues Driver. Did you try doing a youtube search of each pedal with someone using your specific bass or something...

Good strings for a Tool-esque sound?

Hey man, thanks for the helpful response. I've been reading that heavier gauged strings tend to fair better with aggressive picking and lower tuning, which half the time I play in Drop D, so I'll likely just go with the .50 .65 .85 .105 gauge set. I just wish my local music store carried the...

C standard tuning on Peavey T-40

You probably just need to use a higher gauge set of strings if you're playing in Drop C. That's because strings need a certain amount of tension so that they can sustain longer and vibrate freely without touching the pickups/fretboard, which might also be contributing to your problem.

Good strings for a Tool-esque sound?

Thats great! Should I get the .45-.100 or .50-.105 gauge of the the D'Addario Pro Steels? Which is better for a crunchier, brighter, less brittle sounding tone, specifically for pick style? Also would be curious to know the advantages of each for finger style and slap since I play those styles...

Good strings for a Tool-esque sound?

Hi all, I've always been a big fan of Tool, and being a fan of their sound bass wise, I tried to model my rig after them to a degree to get a similar punchy sound through the mix, something their bassist(s) has always been able to do well compared to a lot of bands I've heard. Awhile back...

Should I upgrade to an Ovation Magnum from a knock off Stingray?

Yes but a Stingray is also considered to be "heavy" and I think the weight feels just fine (I'm a bigger guy so maybe that's why). Are you telling me that a Magnum weighs 13 pounds? I held it the other day and yes it was heavy, but it didn't feel as heavy as the T-40.

Should I upgrade to an Ovation Magnum from a knock off Stingray?

Hi all, about a year and a half ago I bought a SBMM 'Ray 34 bass after upgrading from my old Peavey T-40 (a great bass, but it was too heavy to gig with) but just the other day I noticed my local Guitar Center has one vintage Ovation Magnum, a bass I always dreamed of owning and it was sitting...

    What is YOUR sound?

Oh, well that's cool man. I wish I could just convince my buddies to form a Tool tribute band, but there's no way it would ever happen because we typically don't do many covers unless it's live or something. But I think it's cool that even though JC was an influence you still want to search for...
