Double Bass Kay with two bass bars

Well I don't claim to know EVrything LOL and every craft and trade has its nuances of course, but I am a pretty deeply skilled guy with lots of tools years of trades-related experience and the common sense that comes with that. Mr. Condino was kind enough to chime in on this thread and...

Double Bass Kay with two bass bars

I know, but I bought the thing several years ago like a dummy without really checking it in detail, so yeahhh brought that on me own self, so now I'm gonna slowly gather info and peck away at it.

Top image is one of the bass bars with a light behind to show the huge gap. Both have this going on.

So from what I have learned and your advice, I'm assuming that the current ply repair, the added bottom ply and the bass bar should all be spruce, yes?

Double Bass Kay with two bass bars

Thank you for your expert observations.Thid is a model 89 with a serial# of 10733. I am aware of the craft standard of hot hide glue and have used it just once many years ago on a mandolin build project I never finished LOL. My menton of possibly using Titebond type glue was for delamination...

Double Bass Kay with two bass bars

If you are referring to my project, pictured above, there actually is a sound post. Not judgin', but I was a little surprised that it wasn't gobbed in place with silicone or something 😂😂

Double Bass Kay with two bass bars

This makes sense! I am using dry heat so far to remove glue and may use some steam to remove it from the kerf but not (and no water) on plywood or veneer. The wet forming with poly barrier is great info and as it happens I do have a good quantity of apx 1/4" lead shot. Also, I feel like Titebond...

Double Bass Kay with two bass bars

Got my work cut out for me for sure, 😂 Skilled, but definitely a novice in this particular craft, but I do homework so that I have some earthly idea of what it SHOULD look like in there. Imagine my surprise when I found little finish brad nails through perimeter of the top and then an after- the...

Double Bass Kay with two bass bars

Pictured is the added bass bar from who knows when on the right with connecting ladder rungs.inserted under both bars is a hack saw blade to show that they have both come detached in this and other areas they don't look like they were properly glued. Not hard to imagine since I also pulled about...

Double Bass Kay with two bass bars

Much respect and no argument there, but I don't think he lives down the street LOL! I have managed, with heat and weight, reverse the sunken area and uneven "F" holes to (or very close to) their original positions. Next will be delamination repair and then figuring out how RETAIN the shape with...

Double Bass Kay with two bass bars

Plenty of delam. It saw rain WAY before I got it. Pulled brad nails, to my surprise, all around the rim and there is a super and other glue glue mess. There are some spots where the bottom ply (under the top) is just gone. Some in the field, and also around the edges. To patch or build these...

Double Bass Kay with two bass bars

I have the top off of model 89 Kay off and am slowly reshaping it.(Belly was sunken) I found TWO bass bars connected by a couple ladder rung braces. Any suggestions? And that's just ONE hack issue

    Dingwall NG 2

I certainly like it so far! Dingwall got back to me. The serial numbers are simply sequential so they don't indicate specific build date etc. But it left the shop in Canada in November of 2017. Thanks again!

    Dingwall NG 2

Ahh this helps. Def. squared off and the serial # does contain a 15 so I lean towards 2015 Thanks all
