For Sale 2006 Fender Deluxe Jaguar HRR bass, w/hard case MIJ

I am listing this for my pal and bass teacher, Ed Fedewa. The Jaguar Bass in Hot Rod Red (HHR) with Roadrunner hard shell case (shows some wear). From Fender web about the bass: Acclaimed as an extraordinarily versatile mid-2000s addition to the Fender bass family, the sleek and fast-playing...

SOLD Tyrolean Flatback / Complete Restoration (ca. 1875)

Ed sold this bass. Watch his web for other basses, and I will probably list more of them here on his behalf. He really does amazing work.

    Peavey MegaBass Club

Just a quick pop in to say there are three working Peavey Mega Bass units for sale on eBay. I was checking in to see what they are selling for these days and thought I'd share. I am down to one, but it still gets use (currently as a second amp during bass lessons). Very cool. Steve

Double Bass Explain mixing rosins to me please.

I'll monitor it over the next few weeks, but once this Pops+Carlsson hardened, it was much more supple than before. This isn't a great test case, as the Carlsson rosin might be 20+ years old. I watched the melting rosin very closely, and it never really boiled. I just got it to a liquid state...

Double Bass Explain mixing rosins to me please.

Just melted and mixed some very, very, very old Carlsson with some fairly recent Pop’s. Like the result so far. I highly recommend lining your pan with tin foil. This is sticky stuff. I also didn’t melt it in the kitchen—I have an electric burner and did it out in the workshop. Steve

SOLD Tyrolean Flatback / Complete Restoration (ca. 1875)

It really is. I played it a bit today. Ed's work is incredible. He is the principal bass in our symphony orchestra here in Lansing. He built the Galiano copy that he plays in the symphony. I think I have posted about this bass here before, but check this out. Incredible! This former-blockless...

SOLD Tyrolean Flatback / Complete Restoration (ca. 1875)

Completely rebuilt and restored Tyrolean/Bohemian bass from the 1870s/1880s. Outstanding tone and easy to play; highly professional in every regard. Formerly a blockless bass, this complete rebuild was performed by Lansing, Michigan luthier and bassist Ed Fedewa. Large and dark tone from a...

LOL. I didn't even realize I did that. Good catch. More like a Golden Spiral feeling. Ha! Steve

Update: according to this page, which has a partial (and washed out) version of this photo, the image is from the magazine Jazz Monthly (September 1961). Invalid Link Removed

    Double Bass Scott LaFaro Photos

This was my guess, too--a photo from his time at Ithaca. It's not in Helen's book, and I have never seen it before. It's a nice shot. I've been looking at photos of him for most of my life, and I was really surprised to see this new one. And yeah, that's definitely him. Steve

    Double Bass Scott LaFaro Photos

Because of his untimely death at such a young age, there are relatively few photos of Scott LaFaro. I thought I had seen most of them, but this one popped up in a search today: 1) Is this Scott? It sure looks like him. The image popped up on someone's Pintrest page. The bass might help us...

    J-bass on a $600 budget

I'd play a Classic Vibe Jazz and ask yourself why. I still own the one I purchased when they first came out; played one on the showroom floor last week, and I'm still super impressed. And that's coming from a hugh J-Bass snob. Hard to beat the CV Jazz. SR

    Double Bass Austin White

Hey DB/TB pals: I recently watched a streaming set from the Village Vanguard of the Eric Harland Quartet with Chris Potter (sax), Joel Ross (vibes), and Austin White on bass and electronics. This was recorded on Friday, Jan 22, 2021. Great show! ERIC HARLAND - FRIDAY - Village Vanguard Not...
