Songs to Cover for St. Patrick's Day Gigs

Check the Pogues catalogue. Streams of Whiskey, Bottle of Smoke, If I Should Fall From Grace With God, White City, Poor Paddy on the Railway (Check out a live version). I'd be psyched to see a band cover any of these!

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

I guess some of you guys don't realize with what I have an issue with. We open for plenty of big bands and I get the whole hierarchy of who gets to do what and I am fine with that. Here's my problem, if you are a medium size band that is touring and you have what is essentially a car parked...

Self-Promoting Shows Instead of Playing Bars

Well you might have a problem then, who's going to come to your own hall gig? Out here there are literally no music venue's that have their own built in crowds. Those kind of places are a dying breed unfortunately.

Oh I absolutely had my mind made up, the gig is long gone. I was wondering what other people think about that situation because it was rather unique.

Your recommendation for inexpensive Bass-worthy recording mic

Zoom H1 should work well for you. In a pinch, with some trial and error on placement, an iphone voice memo recording can sound decent too.

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

Hmm, I don't believe they were trying to piss us off or anyone. It was just really arrogance and laziness. The sound staff at the venue mic'd the kit and set everything up and they were prepared to move it (I wish I could show you a picture so that you could see how obnoxious it was at this...

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

Yes, we've played with much bigger acts and their stuff was set and we would have to have our drum kit off to the side and be cramped into our little space, but they were traditional set up bands with a frontman so the front of the stage was more or less unobstructed, and that's fine. In this...

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

I fully understand they are the headliner and we have to roll with the punches, etc. and we ultimately did that and were well received and it was all good. I didn't have a chip on my shoulder and didn't want/need respect from them or to hangout and be buddies with them. I would just personally...

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

Just to clarify, it was more the Tour Manager's decision than the actual band members, and the drumset was actually flush to the front of the stage directly in the middle!

What do you think, inconsiderate or not?

So this has been bothering me for a while. Our band was the opener for a nationally touring band (Not to be named). The venue wasn't very big, but a pro music venue with great inhouse sound. Now this band is fronted by a drummer, and they soundchecked at 4:00pm. There were two opening bands...

    Abbreviated version of Advice Please!!

I agree. I have been using the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 direct and it has been fine. Unless you want the mixer to add something i.e. effects, direct will be fine.

    Drum Machine & Recorder

If you have an iphone or ipad I would highly recommend checking out the drum programming apps. I was also contemplating getting an sr-16 but after researching the apps available there is no competition. I got the DM1 app and its really easy to learn and work with, check it out.
