    Composite 2x12 cabinet DIY

If I had access to XPS, I would have used 25mm thick sheets instead. I have easy access to polyester resin, so it would have been cheaper and quicker to build it, it took me a while to find the slow curing epoxy the EPS requires. While the XPS cabinet volume would be a bit smaller, due to the...

    Composite 2x12 cabinet DIY

Let me be clear, this is just an exercise! Even though I think this cab could be built to a reasonable price, as it is, it would never stand up to regular loading/unloading without looking shockinly beaten up within weeks:smug: But to me that is not so important as I don't tour or gig regularly.

Why not, as long as the specs are to the requirements of the speaker it should work just as well?

I encourage you to try it for yourself! It is not difficult at all, a little messy while laminating but well worth the result. :smug:

    Composite 2x12 cabinet DIY

Thanks! I could not find any reference anywhere to a composite cabinet with EPS core, several other materials but not EPS. So I read up and asked people. Eventually I pulled the trigger since there was just nothing indicating that this would be a bad idea. And it works! It's not particularly...

True observations, but l'm not a touring bassist, just the occasional gig or recording so the more delicate nature of the material do not really pose a problem. The cab still fits perfectly onto the back seat of my car so when it's moved it's a cushy job.

Thanks! Voila: It's nicely balanced and despite the volume, it's easy to carry on this simple handle.

    Composite 2x12 cabinet DIY

About 5 years ago, I built my first 2x8 composite cab from honeycomb sheets fiberglass and polyester resin, I was curoius how much weight it would save and It became a very nice, smooth sounding and comfortable to carry little cab. It is being used regularly for small gigs and rehersals. With...

    Harley Benton Block 200

I had my TC Electronic BH250 as a backup amp for the past few years but it is on it's way out, the fan doesn't work anymore, neither does the tone print function and sometimes it makes krackling noises so I was idly looking to find a replacement until I found this: I ordered it immediately, I...

I own a Harley Benton club

I'm gonna do it, I suggest you look into tapewound or flatwound strings:smug:. However, as brother Blair said above, the choice is more limited for short scale basses but there is still a decent selection of flats available: D’Addario Chromes, La Bella Deep Talkin’ Bass Flats, La Bella Low...

Different strings make a huge difference on any bass. In my experience, there is no cheaper way to make your bass sound very different. The choice is huge so It might take a shot or 3 until you are satisfied but it's an interesting journey! Can you give a bit more detail on the preferred sound?

Combo amps, where is the cutoff between toy and tool?

I like playing along at a volume loud enough that you have to raise your voice when when in the room.

Combo amps, where is the cutoff between toy and tool?

Many thanks for a lot of useful suggestions. I should clarify what I mean by "amp for practise", it's playing alone along a playback track at a decent volume. I have amps and cabs for band/live situations, I am looking for a combo that is portable but still sounds reasonably well without the...
