New Pedal That Delivers Alembic Style Filters For Bassists

A useful tip for using a Frequency Distiller Special Blend that a user passed along to me ... If you put an ABY switch in front of the Frequency Distiller Special Blend and use a stereo split cable -- like this: You can switch between A filter, B filter or A+B filters on the fly using the...

New Pedal That Delivers Alembic Style Filters For Bassists

For anyone following this thread — we've released an updated version of the Frequency Distiller, the Frequency Distiller Special Blend. It offers simplified channel switching, some updates to the filter design, and a stereo mode. Packy Lundholm did a YouTube demo of the new pedal that you can...

G-K Backline 112 to the shop

It is possible that the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply need to be be replaced. (FYI, I found the schematic for the amp Invalid Link Removed.)

New Pedal That Delivers Alembic Style Filters For Bassists

I made some measurements and ran a quick simulation to double-check what’s going on -- see the frequency responses below. The way the Resonance control behaves is a result of the state variable filter design used in the Frequency Distiller. When you crank the resonance, you’ll see passband gain...

New Pedal That Delivers Alembic Style Filters For Bassists

Thanks for the thoughtful review and detailed feedback @davelowell2 ! I really appreciate you taking the time to compare the FD with the SF-2 — your notes on the resonance/damping behavior are especially interesting. I’ll dig into that and will follow up with more details soon. By the way, for...

    Alembic SF-2 clone?

Here's another measurement to give you an idea of what the A+B setting can do ... This is a low pass filter at ~70 Hz with max Resonance setting combined with a band pass filter set to approx 2 kHz with a high Q setting. It is possible to do some extreme frequency shaping!

    Alembic SF-2 clone?

Here are some measurements (made with REW) on a pedal set to use filter A only. This is a (roughly) 1 kHz lowpass filter at three Resonance (aka Q) settings. With the Resonance control at mid setting, there is a modest 2.5 dB gain boost. With Resonance set to max, there is a 13 dB gain boost...

    Alembic SF-2 clone?

Great question! I'll make some measurements on a pedal in the next few days and post the results here. I'd do it sooner but I sold all the pedals I had, so need to build one to make the measurements :)

    Alembic SF-2 clone?

We have just released a new bass pedal that was inspired by the Alembic Super Filter. It has dual filters, true bypass switching, and runs from 9 volts (which is boosted internally to 26 volts to deliver massive headroom). More information is available here...
